A visit to our Restoration Workshop & Showroom is an excellent place to begin to learn about pianos and possibly conclude your piano buying experience. Since 1954, The J-B Piano Company has offered pianos of the highest quality in performance, durability and lasting value. Many pianos stay in a family for generations, so those virtues are important in such an enduring piece of a family's estate. The J-B Piano Company offers a full line of servicing for pianos such as restoration, tuning and repair, transportation, storage, and appraisals in the home.
Services
Please call (415) 456-9280 for any inquiries or to arrange a special appointment for us to help you with your investment in a quality piano. I am Glenn Woodruff, the second owner since our founding in 1954. I started working with Leonard Jared and Stephan Binion, The J-B Company's founders, in 1976.
Restored pianos are a wonderful, cost saving alternative to buying new. Pianos are so well engineered and constructed that they can be successfully restored to a like- or even better than - new condition. There are several factors to consider which include the worth or value of the piano after the work is done, assurance that your expectations will be met or surpassed and, most importantly, who will be doing the work.
If you have a special event or are considering a limited period of time to have a piano at your home or venue, The J-B Piano Company will guide you through the best selection for your needs. We are proud to offer new Hailun Pianos, internationally known through winning the NAMM award of "Piano of the Year" three years in a row.
We do our best to apply that dictum to a rental piano as well. We want you and your family to have a wonderful, fulfilling experience with one of our rental pianos. Six months of the rental fees can be applied toward purchase of the rented piano, or any other piano in our shop. We invite you to come and try them.

I bought a 1967 Steinway restored expertly and lovingly by Cameron. Glenn and Cameron were attentive and welcoming on my several visits to the store and workshop. It was a huge deal for me to upgrade my piano and they were so helpful. The piano is home now and exquisite. I cannot believe how responsive, warm and lovely it sounds.

Glenn is unbelievably unprofessional. He was hired to move a piano, but refused to resolve some basic concerns. For instance, I asked who would be responsible if the piano is damaged in transit? His response was that he's been in business for 50 years. That does not resolve the concern. Instead of having a conversation on how to resolve my concerns for the piano move, Glenn decided to hang up on me.
He refused to even discuss it with me. He may have been in business for 50 years, but he clearly doesn't know how to run a business. I think the reviews here can confirm.

I needed a new decal installed on my Steinway D piano. I had much trouble finding someone who knew who to do it, short of sending my piano back to NYC (no way!). JB Piano has a man named Ramon (Garza?) who really knows his way around fixing and refinishing the piano finish. Did a really nice job. I have no opinion regarding the other services offered at JB.

Glenn, the owner of J-B Piano Company, offers best-in-class service! He really knows the history of the pianos he sells and his transparency, honesty, and integrity is a breath-of-fresh air. From the first moment my husband, Vaggelis, and I stepped into his showroom, he really took the time to share his expertise with us and made us feel right at home.
So far, we have visited his showroom twice and each time he has really taken the time to listen to us and answer our questions and concerns. We are extremely grateful that God has led us to such a wonderful, patient, and knowledgeable piano expert who is truly passionate about his craft in every way. Thank you very much for introducing your beautiful pianos to us and telling us the history behind each beautifully-crafted instrument. Glenn truly knows how to do business the right way and it shows because first and foremost, he really knows how to treat folks right and he knows pianos inside and out!

I worked with one of the owners, Mark about purchasing a piano from me as I was moving. Mark came to my home and spoke to me on the phone several times - very nice and professional. They have a lot of inventory and could not make any offers, but he had good suggestions for me to sell on Craigslist myself. I received 3 offers right away and settled on one with a buyer. I very much appreciated his help and his answers to my questions.

Glen Woodruff, the owner of JB Piano Company, is a true technical piano expert who has recently restored my 1985 Steinway D (concert grand). Because of tuning problems, increasingly harsh and brittle tone, and increasingly poor keyboard control due to worn components, I engaged three separate registered piano technicians to deal with these problems.
One after another, each expert technician failed to improve these dysfunctions, charging a total of $9,000, with no further ideas on how to restore this instrument. JB Piano Company, recommended by our local symphony technician, took on this project and within a week had diagnosed the problems and replaced numerous defective or worn out parts and properly regulated the piano.
This instrument now sounds and plays like a Steinway concert grand should. The credit for this success belongs to Glen Woodruff who is friendly, patient and COMPETENT. I am completely satisfied with his work and recommend him for any piano technical work or tuning. Dave F.

I had a very disappointing experience with JB Piano. The person I worked with is Glen, and I think he is one of the owners. I went to JB piano twice to check out and play a grand piano I was interested in (I live in Oakland and it is 1h drive typically), then Glen came over to my house to check out and appraise my current piano for trade in. After 2 meetings in the store, and 1 meeting in my house, we agreed on a price including details such as moving arrangements, bench and everything.
When I called a few days later to make the final arrangements for payment and moving, Glen told me he can't go with the price we had agreed upon because "things has changed". That is exactly what he told me! He decided not to honor the price we had agreed on and asked for more money. That is just not professional, bad business ethics and practice.
The deal fell through of course, not only because I don't have more money to pay his "new price", but also what he did is not professional. I am actually surprised because Glen first seemed to be a nice and knowledgeable person and I really didn't expect him to do something like that. In summary, Glen wasted my time and acted very unprofessionally. The bottomline is, as a businessman, one should honor the agreed upon price and not change it in the last minute. It is just bad business ethics.
