Recently drove to SF from the Peninsula because after lots of research this is the only store in the Bay Area worth visiting if you need to purchase a new or used classical guitar and want to benefit from a robust inventory of options at various price points. The attention we received over the course of two visits and the patience that allowed us to try many guitars and ask countless questions before we decided was simply incredible.
The kind of service that I had forgotten even existed. I purchased a used classical guitar made in 1974 for myself and my son got a 7/8 Alhambra. We are both very very happy!

Thank you to Guitar Solo owner who served me at the shop. I had never played before but was feeling that the holidays would be very isolating and rainy, it seemed like a fun way to pass the time and I've been trying to learn to sing lately as well. I know nothing about guitars so was expecting to feel like an idiot with an eye-rolly hipster dude judgy-pants clerk (as a woman who goes to bike shops this is not unfamiliar to me) and getting myself prepared to not care (or pretend to not care!).
That wasn't my experience at all! He let me try some of the lower end guitars so I could get a feel for them and explained the differences. I ended up buying the cheapest one they had because the next one up (cheapest with steel strings) was too big for me. I have had so much fun trying to learn and when I buy my next better acoustic guitar I will definitely go back so I can give them a better chunk of money.

This place is a gem! The guy that owns the place is stellar, super warm hearted and a true collector! My boyfriend plays and I do not, but he was completely enthralled by the hard to find and super loved instruments of this shop. We showed up unannounced to the front door not aware of the impending closing time and Dean (the owner) welcomed us in so genuinely that we ended up hanging out after hours with him! Dean!
Your energy is stellar sir! You are such a good person and your shop is amazing! If we ever find ourselves in San Fran we will always stop by to say hello! -Meg and Noah (@astroprojection);)

So I went there the other week. I'd broken a guitar string. Background; I'm a novice new player and didn't even know how to tune my guitar properly. That's how the string broke. Anyway the gentleman serving me didn't suffer novices lol. It's obvious this is a pro place. However, he was incredibly polite and although nonplussed with my "green-ness" he even installed the string for me super fast and efficiently.
It was everything I needed to help me get back to learning again. Super grateful. Thank you Mr Guitar guy! One day I will impress you.we will talk about cool guitar stuff But for now I will continue learning how to tune my guitar without breaking my strings

Found GSP based on my teacher's recommendation. I wanted to support a local business during Covid. My intentions were to purchase a nice guitar and ended up walking out with a sweet Taylor. Enjoyed: GSP has a cozy shop vibe and staff was very attentive and was willing to work with me financially + more to make sure I walked out not regretting my purchase.
There are some really nice guitars and I was able to try as many as I'd liked. Wish: I've played an instrument before, but just started learning guitar a few months ago and would've liked more handholding and a warmer welcome with finding my first guitar. I can also understand reviews where customers felt the shop came off as a bit pretentious. Overall, I definitely recommend GSP because they're a local business and can give you a decent deal.

Wow. I know nothing of stringed instruments, but they made it easy for me to purchase the correct strings. My partner of 13 years has never played her old '65-vintage electric guitar for me as she had misplaced the bridge in our cross country move. She found it: I wanted to surprise her with strings and a EZ-winder: and the gentleman at Guitar Solo made the buying process soooo easy. Hopefully she will play a lot now, and we will be back to purchase more strings and stuff as she has fun. Thanks!

I put my guitar on consignment with Guitar Solo SF and for nearly two years heard nothing from them. So called them to schedule a time when I could take it back, and left a message. The owner called me back a couple of days later and told me, "It's been sold." "When?" I asked. "Must've been in the last month or so." I made my skepticism clear and he kept making excuses about how they're operating on a skeleton crew. Maybe he was telling the truth, but I think there's a good chance they were just trying to pocket the money they owed me.

I started my day really poorly, I was fired. I wanted to cheer myself up and do something with my musical instruments, and my Circuit I just bought broke on me. Mike went above and beyond what he needed to do to help me out today. I came in needing to return my Novation Circuit because it was faulting and was going to replace it. After discussing the nature of the return, we both discovered and came to the conclusion that the Circuit was causing issues with my workflow anyways, and that I should try something else with my store credit.
After Hours of hard consideration, he helped me work out a SUPER sweet deal for the Push and Ableton Live 10, I literally felt like I was walking out the store with everything I got for free, amazing experience. Thank you Mike, and thank you for working so hard, you were also helping multiple employees and other customers all at the same time, a skill set not capable of most people.

I came here to purchase a guitar and while they had quality inventory and the exact guitar I wanted at a price that worked--I walked out without buying anything and will never shop here again. I know a lot of musicians and I will also now proactively NOT recommend this shop. I was a friendly, respectful, and obviously ready-to-buy customer and they could not have been less helpful or interested.
Terrible attitude, not helpful in the slightest. Asked me no questions, didn't even say "hello", seemed irritated that I wanted to look at their products. I regularly go out of my way to support small local businesses before I buy online. Not this time. Rude people don't get my business.

Your luthier ruined my custom built 6string electric. he installed cheap parts, threw away the origionals. when the black silicon glue he used did not hold he offered to put some more in but i said no. he is dave? in any event, screw solo and the wanker luthiers u guys find. i know he is just some independent dude who picks up jobs at solo. but solo is supposed to be the best most intelligent guitar shop in town. and this disaster has your name on it, not the idiot u turned loose on my guitar. disgusted william chauncey soma be very carefull bring any guitar here for service. they use local dudes and it is definitly hit n miss. no more solo for this guitarist.

On Monday the guys in Mail Order called me back and graciously offered to refund the costs and send me my order with free shipping. They agreed that the guy I talked to in retail can be. "not the sunniest". is what I think they said. I have to give y'all an upgrade, but as a fellow business owner (with over 70 5-star reviews and only 1 4-star) I implore you to work on the customer service of every employee.

Yes, it's true - they are rude (Bill & friend) and even if you buy from them - they don't thank you at all. It's like they are doing YOU a favor. It is very pretentious after I bought my guitar to serenade my fiance I felt horrible because of the experience. I am selling my Yamaha because it carries such a negative energy. I am going to Guitar Center on Van Ness instead.
