Adventure Finding the right piano teacher is essential. A piano teacher should be a good listener, design every lesson to accommodate the progress of each student, and make sure the pace of learning is comfortable. The piano instructor should create a supportive, relaxed learning environment. Students should feel free to ask questions, be inquisitive, and express themselves.

Creativity and individuality are encouraged. Many piano students arrive without any piano background, and this is perfect. When we start piano or keyboard lessons from the beginning, we can cover everything needed in a customized time frame.

The technology is here. I now offer live, remote piano & keyboard lessons. For those who are outside the driving area to my studio, in another locale or state, or who simply don't want to drive, you can now take lessons online. We work on all the same skills that we would at in-person lessons in the studio.
Norm Zarr has taught piano to people of all ages for over 25 years. After studying music in New York City, he founded a music education software company and was a pioneer in inventing recording and studio tools for professional musicians. He spent years as a sound-designer, creating synthesizer sounds to be used in recordings for CD's, T.V. and Film.
Great piano lessons. My teacher is terrific. He's very patient with me, and lessons are stress free and fun. My teacher is very professional and skilled at matching each lessons to where I am with my progress. I started lessons as an adult beginner 2 years ago. Learning piano has been a joy. I am progressing much faster than expected, and am already playing Enya, Beethoven, Billy Joel, all sorts of great music. There are so many things to learn. I recently started to learn to play by ear, and am doing some blues improvisation.
There's a lot of great things to do at the studio. Developing musicianship can be achieved in a number of ways. Students can learn to play a variety of pieces; popular, new age, classical, blues, jazz, folk, improvising blues & jazz. Learning about chords and melodies and being able to play by ear add to one's skills.

I am pleased to say the least that in my search for a great piano teacher Norm Zarr was by far well received. I am 33 years of age out of the twin city area of Minnesota where remote lessons were essential to my time well spent with Mr. Zarr being that his studio is in Portland Oregon. What I liked most of all is he focused on what I wanted out of the lessons which was how to read sheet music well.

Not only did he do that, but he also taught other skills as well which I had no knowledge of prior to these lessons. I strongly recommend at least an hour session because playing piano and instruction is key to developing a good foundation not in just piano but also in music. I also wanted to mention that when seeking for teachers in my local area it was not a good experience so when Norm reached out to me during my search I was grateful because it seemed to me that not many piano teachers teach adults although they seemed willing. From my understanding he teaches both adolescents and adults. I am glad to be having Norm be apart of my piano journey until I master the piano.

Each week my piano lessons with Norm are fun. He's a great teacher. As an adult beginner, I've been doing lessons 2 years and my progress is good. I'm learning to read music faster than I expected. Each week we work on new songs as well as review my favorites. Norm is so knowledgeable about all aspects of music. He really enjoys teaching. I'm always relaxed at the lessons, and we progress at a comfortable rate. There's always something new to learn, new songs in different styles, blues improvisation, playing by ear. I really enjoy it all.

I have been doing lessons now for about 3 years. We work on some fun stuff, classical & modern music, blues improvisation, chords, melodies and more. Finally I can say that I understand music. I always wanted to play piano, and I am so happy I started when I did. Learning to play piano is fascinating to me, and my teacher always encourages me. I played for some friends the other day, and they were so impressed, especially my blues improvisation which amazed them.
