Renting an instrument is a way for you to see if purchasing is right for you. It's also a good option if your student is growing and will need to up size over time. When you rent at High Strung, the principle amount of the rent that you pay accrues as credit that can be used toward the purchase price of a new instrument when you are ready to buy.
You must make an appointment to drop off your repair. We will check in, evaluate your repair, and call or email you with the estimate and any other notes. Please note, the cost of your repairs is dependent on the repair estimate that is determined after your instrument's evaluation and/or customer's requests.
All lessons are held at our studio at 1805 Markham Avenue. We have 7 private lesson rooms, each with a windowed door, sound-insulated walls, an exterior window for natural light, and all equipment necessary for a productive lesson. Our lesson studios are on the second floor, but we do have a downstairs classroom that meets all accessibility guidelines.

It's a nice small shop. I went in to buy a new violin, and they had plenty to look through. They also let you take a few days to test out over a period of several days, but this is standard practice in the violin world. Quick word of advice: If a violin shop does not let you take an instrument home to test, do NOT buy anything from them. They just want you to make a quick purchase, not have a nice instrument.
High Strung was fine. I would say they're about standard as far as shops go. They're pretty messy, and it's clear the salespeople are just that, sales people, rather than artisans or people who know a lot about music. The main salesperson, the shop owner I believe, is a guitar person and knows little about violins. They are a good place to get a beginner instrument though, as their prices are very respectable.
