Colorado Piano Works is respected across northern Colorado for its high quality services, honesty and old world craftsmanship. It is owned and operated by Hank Lea, who is known for his attention to detail and passion for the instrument. I feel that it's important to treat every customer's piano as if it were a Steinway. I believe that if a piano is restored with a complete knowledge of pianos and their workings, the highest quality parts, and a true passion for the instrument, it can be made to sound and perform like new.
Services
All work is performed by Hank Lea and is a true labor of love. Each piano is different so every rebuilding job has to be a custom job. Every piano that comes into the shop is rebuilt using the finest parts available and restored to as high of a standard as possible. Many exceptionally high quality pianos have been manufactured in past years, especially in the 20's and 30's. Quality and workmanship was often superior during that era. Ornate styling of casework and figured wood veneers make them stand out.
As a child, I was fascinated with mechanical things. I loved to dismantle broken items and then reassemble them to see how they worked. Many times I noticed something was obviously wrong and would repair the item to working condition. I also enjoyed hovering over the shoulder of the servicemen who came to our home for general maintenance repairs.

Colorado Piano works is owned and operated by Hank Lea. Hank rebuilt two pianos for me. The first was an c.1895 Weber that needed complete restoration after being botched by a well-intended person. Hank completely gutted the works and restored everything to like-new condition. His workmanship and attention to detail was nonpareil. Every screw was removed and polished.

Old iron parts were chrome re-plated. Missing parts were fabricated in his complete shop. The piano was refinished with a darker mahogany stain and the piano looked so new and different, it was hard to believe it was the same instrument. The other restoration was a 1901 Ivers and Pond upright that was complete, but needed refinishing and all internals gone over. Again, this piano looked like it just came off the factory floor when Hank completed his magic.

All metal parts were polished bright. Hammers were replaced. Strings replaced. Both pianos had cracked sound boards, the heart of any piano. After rework, the sound from both was magnificent. Hank is very personable, professional, and quite picky about his work. He does nothing half-way. He is very results-oriented and thoroughly enjoys his work. With a touch of Old-World craftsmanship, Hank has created a unique piano service built around his desire to do the best for his customers. I highly recommend Colorado Piano Works to anyone who cares about their beloved piano and wants nothing but the best.
