Our guitar instructors provide lessons across a variety of genres including rock, blues, jazz, metal, and worship for acoustic, electric and classical guitar. Beginner students will focus on the fundamentals including chords, simple melodies, music theory, and sight reading. As you progress we will continue to teach you new techniques, and more music theory concepts that will help you understand the music and your instrument even more. We also like to incorporate popular music to help teach these concepts.
Music Theory isn't so much about learning to play music, as it is learning to understand what it is you're playing. Whether you play an instrument or not we can teach you the ins and outs of music. These classes will focus on rhythm, key signatures, relationships between notes, chord types, and so much more.
We are excited to teach new writers how to foster creativity and turn it into finished material. In these lessons you'll be learning about song structure, how to write lyrics, and a useful amount of music theory to apply to your own projects. You'll also be breaking down and studying original songs of your own, as well as the cover tunes you know by heart.
Dan brings with him 13+ years of musical knowledge, as well as a Bachelor of Music from Stephen F. Austin State University. Eric has his Bachelors in music from GVSU with an emphasis on classical and jazz and has been teaching since 2004. Steve started teaching lessons at Firehouse in 2005 while studying classical, and jazz guitar at GRCC.

I had a great experience today working with Nate. I drove out from Holland and was just going to look around. I got into a conversation with Nate about the guitars and amps. He showed me around and let me play a bunch of them but the problem was, I wasn't sure what I wanted. I went in to the acoustic room and he told me about the Seagull guitar. I didn't want to buy a guitar from China but everything made in America was out of my range.
He pointed me to the Seagulls made in Canada. I played Seagull Entourage QI and loved it right away but still wasn't sure. I left and went to a few other guitar stores one acted like I wasn't even there and I left after 15 minutes. The other store told me to go back and get the Seagull over what they had. So I drove back and picked it up. Nate was awesome super patient with me I tried out 3-4 of them plugged them in listened to them the pick the first one I played that just felt perfect in my hands and had the best sound to me. After an hour I walked out with it and felt great about my purchase. I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate Nate for making this experience so great.

I've bought a guitar from them online and it arrived in immaculate shape. They even measured the bridge for me before buying it so I would know if a mod would work on it. Recently moved to the area and had my Strat setup. It played great, but the setup moved a bit for some reason, so I brought it back about a week later. The guitar tech Mike came and adjusted it and had me out of the shop within 30 minutes---no extra charge! Check em out!

Spent 45 minutes in there. Staff came and helped me out a bit, they were nice and willing to help when asked about anything. Staff seemed to give me more of a personal experience telling me things about themselves and their playing and stuff. Awesome selection to look at, unfortunately they aren't a Gibson dealer. That being said if you love fenders, you will end up with a few thousand dollars of debt.

Best guitar shop in Grand Rapids. Staff is always friendly and helpful without ever feeling pushy or overbearing. Great selection of instruments and amps-- new and used. They also have a fantastic amp tech. I brought in a vintage Fender from 1967 to be looked at and the guy talked me into having it rewired and I'm glad I did. When I flipped it on for the first time my heart sank because I couldn't hear anything. Until I started playing. He made my vintage fender amp DEAD quiet. No hiss, no static, no buzz. Just amazing. Can't recommend Firehouse enough.

Excellent store, right in my neighborhood. I am a beginner guitar player. Came in and spoke with Nate. He helped me find a nice used (I had actually seen it listed on Craigslist prior) acoustic guitar. Found a nice bag for it as well. I mentioned I was a veteran and they offer a military discount. Nice! I am very happy with my purchase. Once it's time to upgrade to a nicer guitar I'm going back!
