Stamell String Instruments

We went to Stamell to shop for violins for my children. Stephen was so patient and courteous. He measured my children and let them try out different sizes of violin. He answered my questions patiently and even played different violins to show the differences for my children. Because we had such a pleasant experience with Stephen, I decided to go back for my violin needs even though they are much further than other places.

I've been playing cello for 7 months and desperately needed new strings but didn't know how to put them on, the guys in the shop were absolutely incredible! They chatted with me about the different types of strings and put on the new set. Additionally, they looked at my cello for me to make sure that it was set up properly and even played it for me so I could hear what it sounded like with a more advanced player. Overall, it was an amazing experience and extremely informative! I highly recommend them!

I brought in my double bass for repairs, and I couldn't be any happier. Everyone was very courteous. They worked with me to stay inside my budget. Then went above and beyond. It sounds and plays better than it ever has. What's most impressive is the attention to detail on top of the already great craftsmanship. They really made sure every last detail was covered.

I took it home and practiced for hours. And as I played, I got more and more blown away by what a great job they did. I will definitely be trusting them in the future for my instrument inspections and repairs.

Went looking for a mandolin. When I wandered into this store, it was clear that they mainly focused on violins, violas, cellos and basses. However, the two people working in the store were very friendly and helpful. They made some suggestions on where to buy a mandolin, even suggesting that their luthier could make me one. (That was out of my price range, but a thoughtful suggestion). It turns out that they also carry Ukuleles. I bought one for my daughter that is engraved with elephants. It plays well and she enjoys it.

High quality experience at an afordable price. They fixed my sound post in my violin in a matter of minutes with an appointment. Only about 15 dollars too. Definitely worth the trip to Poughkeepsie and the price of the actual job. Highly recommended for string players.

My daughter plays violin. A lot. The people at Stamell are top-notch, super-helpful, and local. They patiently helped guide her when we were selecting her first "better" violin. Troy is an expert luthier, and his repair work (which we've unfortunately required.) is first rate. We are lucky to have Stamell around and supporting the Poughkeepsie area for strings. It's actually kinda remarkable that we have a string shop of this caliber in these parts! Now if we can just get a White Castle, a Trader Joe's and some kind of specialty running store. That would be sweet.
