I had a not-great experience with Peter Zaret and Sons. I took my grandfather's 120 year-old Strad clone in for a paid appraisal appointment. The front door was locked when I arrived, so I called. No one answered. After about 5 minutes, another car pulled into the lot and a younger man proceeded to unlock the door. I went in, identified myself and waited another 5 minutes for the younger man to find my appointment.
After another 5 minutes, Mr. Zaret finally came down. He spent about 10 seconds looking at my violin and told me it was a worthless Strad clone and went to hand it back to me. I explained to him that I knew the violin was a low-end clone, but wanted to know more about it as it is a family relic. Unimpressed, he acted curt and bothered by my questions. Bad customer service aside, he did not offer much useful information on the instrument. It was a waste of $37.

I bought an instrument off ebay and it was damaged during shipping. Peter Zaret and Sons Violins did an excellent job fixing my instrument. Every step in the process was seamless. I received a fair estimate for the work, and the work was completed in a reasonable time frame. Peter and his staff members were all very professional and kind. They even replaced the strings for me, as I requested.
I was so excited to pick up my instrument and take it home to play, good as new. This place is a hidden gem. I would highly recommend taking your instrument here to get it fixed! Their luthier service is top notch.

If I can give more than 5 stars! Mr. Zaret and staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. Made recommendations of choosing appropriate cello for my son. They offered us several cellos to try and select one that's compatible with my son's current playing. Welcoming environment and non intimidating as some string shops. We are so glad that we found Mr. Zaret's shop and will definitely return for future needs.

Got my cello fixed here. They were professional and got my cello fixed in a decent amount of time. Priced reasonably. Mr Zaret seems to know quite a bit about the instruments. His staff is pretty friendly as well. Would consider going here again if there was damage to my instrument. Was overall pretty pleased with the experience.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Zaret and his staff recently at their location to get to know their business. Dr. Zaret's ongoing dedication to sound improvement is fascinating, as is his passion for music. I highly recommend Peter Zaret & Sons Violins to anyone looking for not just violins, cellos, and bows but someone who can be a guide to help you in your selection. They truly can and want to help you!
