Matt Umanov Guitars One of the biggest, and what many folks consider to be the bestest, Gibson flattops ever was their original Jumbo of 1934. Its body contour and size were the precursors. A truly superb, hand-built classical guitar from the master luthiers at Yamaha. A top professional-grade instrument, with gorgeous straight-grained, solid Madagascar rosewood back and sides and a super-finely-grained solid spruce.

Wes! Wes Montgomery! Was there ever a more original, more innovative, more important jazz guitar player, ever?
Services
Repairing and restoring top-grade fretted instruments is where I started out in the early 1960s in Greenwich Village, several years before opening my store here. It began with fixing everything I could find as a little kid, gaining tool skills and woodworking and machine skills along the way, and knowledge of processing all kinds of natural materials (wood, metal, plastics, glass and more) for manufacturing processes.
Complete bridge, including aluminum base with threaded posts and height-adjustment wheels. Typical Seidel-Style six-petal flowers stamped into all four circular corners of the plate. If you've got a 19th-century Martin with its original tuners missing these might be just the set for you. An absolutely beautiful, mid-19th century complete set of tuners for a slotted-peghead guitar.
Restorations and repairs are where we started, in the early 1960s, and structural integrity and proper playability are still where we start with every instrument we offer for sale.
From 1969 through 1977, the location of our very first store was at 35 Bedford St., right here in the West Village and not more than three blocks from where we are now, but on a tiny backwater street; you had to know about us to find us, and plenty of people did, from local beginning players to working pros, to Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Yul Brynner, Steve Martin, and plenty more.

I would not do business with him again. I overpaid for repairs and the work was sloppy. He called me one day while my guitar was with him for repairs and said that that the bridge should be re-glued. He charged me an extra $200 dollars for that and you can see glue drip marks on the soundboard.

Bought there my dream guitar a few years ago. Just for that 5 stars!

I'd love to award the spot an additional star, because the people who work there, as well as the vibe of the place are worthy only of that many stars, but I found their selection somewhat vanilla. Still, an absolute legend of a shop that is a must-visit anytime you're in town.

Been playing bass for over 20 years, recently started dabbling in guitar. Getting a good setup is arguably more important than having a good instrument. Matt sets up all of my guitars and basses. Without a doubt he is the best in town. Worth every penny.

Excellent product selection, outstanding customer service. The guys at the shop not only know a lot, they also freely share what they know. From helping me explore new sounds with nylon string guitars and resonaters, they guys took the time to demo and explain, encouraging me to be hands on the whole time. Excellent selection of amps, guitars and more. Very happy to spend my money at this shop when I'm in town! Not only will I go back, but I'll recommend them to others! If you like guitars, these are your guys!

Went there with my two kids and wife to buy guitar pedals. I know nothing about guitar, I asked for the basic and cheap pedals for beginner. Staff was very very friendly, he showed me different basic pedals and played guitar in front of us explaining each one. Prices are similar than in Amazon. He also reminded us to buy extra cables and batteries needed. We got free stickers and picks. Great service, nice shop, friendly staff, what else?

I went on Friday to purchase a left-handed Fender Jazz bass. I saw that they had one posted online. I was greeted by a friendly sales person (I can't remember his name but he has a really long bread!) who let me try multiple basses before I settled on a decision. Best experience I've had in a guitar shop in a while. Highly recommend this place!

Requested a slide and the guitarist Zeke was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was not interested in making money, but rather concerned with my playing style or what I hope my playing style to be so he advised me a slide based off of my budget and what I hope to get out of it. Overall, I plan to visit the shop again especially if I'm in the area.

Highly recommend. A most wonderful experience, thank you Matt Umanov. Extra special thanks to Zeke and Carl. You both made our visit to NYC extra special and memorable, much more than just a purchase, a connection with beautiful people. This business has integrity, the staff are expert, and the instruments superior. This is THE place to purchase an instrument, we are so excited about our new guitar and mandolin. Prices are competitive and they shipped our instruments free of charge.
