Old Town Violins

Old Town Violins has been providing exceptional stringed instruments and bows to amateurs, professionals, and students of all ages since 2005. Founded in "Old Town" Berea, Kentucky, we relocated to Lexington, Kentucky in 2007, and expanded again in 2014 to our current location. The shop features two instrument showrooms, private instruction studios, and a dedicated workshop.

We like to provide as many services as possible to our local string playing community. We offer appraisals, take-home instrumunt tryouts, consignment, financing, and many types of instrument repairs and restoration.

Instruments come in many different sizes. It is important to rent the correct size for your child or they will find it difficult or impossible to play. If there is any question, choose the smaller size. Arm length is the most accurate way to select the correct size instrument. Have your child stand with his or her left arm outstretched to the side not reaching, but not bent either. Measure from the base of the neck to the center of the palm. This indicates the most comfortable size instrument for that child.

Located in historic downtown Lexington, our building dates from the late 1800's. This three story building allows us to provide customers with a comfortable shopping experience. The main floor features an original stained glass window and functioning pocket doors. Upstairs there are several rooms which house our cellos and basses, and also serve as private tryout and lesson rooms. The original hardwood floors and tall ceilings throughout the building make for a wonderful acoustical experience.
