Bob Willcutt still loves repairing guitars. The nice view of downtown Lexington from his repair bench doesn't hurt. Initially working as a social worker, Bob repaired and rebuilt vintage folk instruments as a hobby starting in the 1960's. After repairing and mentoring at a local music store, he went on to found his own guitar and repair shop.
Here is a brief list of the prices on the most common jobs we perform. We perform a wide variety of services not mentioned, so send us an email or call if you don't see your specific issue listed. These are also estimates and can change due to the complexity of the job, but we will always get your approval before proceeding if the price may have changed.

Just wanted to share my positive experience with Wilcutt, and Eric specifically for his help, and putting my mind at ease over ordering online (first time I haven't bought a guitar in person). My new LP came perfect, and plays and sounds great. Thanks again, and hope to do business again in the future.

Fantastic repair shop. Ben worked magic on an Epihone SG I brought in Saturday. I drove 2 hrs to their shop and they had it completed-EXPERTLY-quick fashion. His diagnosis was accurate the first time and the repairs beautifully done at a great price. He ALSO set up a new Stratocaster brought in. I have been a Willcutt's customer for 20 years+ and will continue to do so. Thanks Ben and all at Willcutt Guitars.

I purchased a Gibson guitar from Willcutt Guitars in October 2021. When the guitar arrived, I noticed one of the knows was broken. I immediately reached out to get a resolution. The representative that I spoke with offered to send me a new set of knobs to resolve the issue. He advised me that they needed to order them from Gibson but will have them to me shortly. 2 weeks later, I received a used knob in the mail.
It was not matching and the lettering was faded. I immediately reached out and was told that this was only to hold me over until the new ones come in. 4 months later and I have heard nothing back from them. I have reached out multiple times since then then via Facebook messenger service (where they originally communicated with me). The messages have been viewed by the shop, but never responded to.
At this point, receiving the knobs are based more on principle than actual need. Gibson knobs are available online and easily accessible for around $40. The guitar I purchased was $2499. I, along with other guitar enthusiast would/ should expect to have good service when spending that much on a guitar. Unfortunately, that was not the case with Willcutt. I hope to receive an update soon and will adjust this review accordingly if/when I hear from them.

I recently took my guitar to a local tech in Louisville to put my original Dragon 1 pick ups back in. When the person took the back off and said, "I don't know what I'm looking at", I decided to drive to drive an hour and a half to Lexington. My thought process was this - a high end PRS dealer is not going to let someone unskilled in their craft work on high end equipment.
I was absolutely correct. Ben @ Willcutt Guitars is amazing. I had my pick ups switched out, a full set up with tone pots and knobs replaced. I have a 28 year old PRS Custom 24 with a 5 way rotary, and it has never sounded nor played better. Thank you very much Ben. Truly a wonderful experience and I look forward to working with Willcutt in the future.

I can safely say this is the best online guitar store in the nation. The service is simply second to none. The inventory is a man's eternal wish list and the products and support makes you come back again and again. Too happy with my Rick Turner Model1, my Rickenbacker 660 Mapleglo, My Am Prof II Fender Dark Night Tele and my latest Fender Limited Ed Cabronita. Zach Lafferty is the best! Hope to meet Bob in person one day!

I bought this guitar online based on photos and it being a bit rare - a limited edition Fender at a price that surprisingly was right in line with the big chain shops. i couldn't be happier with the result. i would have gladly paid more for the attention to detail that they provided. it was obvious that the set-up from Willcutt was well above and beyond that which i've received from other sellers. many of them do not even really check out the guitar before selling, some might do a good set-up, but this one was 100% perfect and continues to be so, a few years on! i have bought dozens of used and new (mostly vintage) guitars over the decades, and still have nearly all of them. and every time i play, or even just look at, this fine Fender from Willcutt, i recognize the extra mile they have gone to make this one a real winner. i really hope that i will pass through Lexington again someday, perhaps when touring resumes, and can stop in and pay my respects in person. i'm pretty sure i might just walk out with another guitar.

Just purchased an acoustic guitar online from Willcutt.a totally great experience! Particularly since I'm in Southern Calif - remote purchase of a guitar is always challenging since you can't be there to play it and check out the details. Zach and Eric handled the sales side and answered all my questions and provided documentation of the specs as I requested. Ben called me to ask how I wanted it set up, and he delivered a perfect job with a straight neck, new 11 gauge strings and killer action. Fair pricing, friendly and expert service, quality shipping. Overall, an awesome place to buy a guitar and I highly recommend these guys.

I've ordered a bass and two acoustic guitars from Wilcutt Guitars. I have dealt with Eric and Brandon. Every time, it is the same - great service! They pack the guitars well and treat you like a friend. They package the receipt, business cards, and a Wilcutt Guitar cloth with your purchase. It all seems to be packaged with care - like a friend would do for you.
I will definitely continue to purchase items from Wilcutt. To this point, they have never let me down. Thank you everybody at Wilcutt Guitars! BTW, I am in Southern California and have never met anyone at this store, That's why its so surprising that they treat me like a valued customer and a friend. Local shops could learn a lesson or two from Wilcutt.

Brandon and the awesome staff helped guide me through my last new fender custom shop bass purchase. Bass arrive well pack with slight damage to the case in transit and the case was immediately replaced and I have a beautiful setup instrument at a great price. If I ever get to Kentucky this will be a definite stop. Brandon was polite, professional and easy to work with over the phone and by email. The only thing is I wish I had more money to buy more guitars here! Down home family shoppe with a pro vibe! Thanks again!

I did purchase a guitar few months ago and the experience was ok. Came back because I needed a second guitar and was treated very bad, there was an old gentleman there very rude, not willing to help, and at the end could not find anybody to help with my second purchase. I guess buying there or buying online is the same, except that online you avoid dealing with people with no manners or any idea what customer service is. I'm giving 2 stars because they do have a good range of instruments.

On 4/17/18 I purchased a Martin 00-28 acoustic guitar from Stan Nickell at Willcutt Guitars. At the time of purchase the guitar was sold to me with a leather concert case that I did not want. I wanted the heavy duty molded Martin case that most Martins come with. I was told by Stan and another employee (who I believe was a manager) that they would switch the case out for me free of charge, no problem.
They both gave me their business cards and told me to call them during the next business day. And so I did. At first Stan responded to one of my calls and some of my text messages. But now after leaving nearly a dozen voicemails on their work phones, I have received no contact from them and feel as if I have been deliberately ignored. At the end of the day I got a great deal on a great guitar but am still unsatisfied due to the case.
I might be wrong but I think they only told me they would switch it out in order to make a sale. It's not everyday you spend $2500 on a guitar. at least for me it isn't. So of course I want to be happy with what my purchase and get what I paid for. In the end, what is most important to me is the principle of the matter. When you tell someone you are going to do something for them, when you give them your word and say "We can switch that out for you, no problem", I expect it to be done.
So that is why I'm disappointed in this transaction. I am posting this review in hopes that they will change their mind, return my calls, and make the situation right by switching the case out. If that is done I will gladly remove this review. Thank you. -Matthew

After over 50 years of doing business with retail guitar shops and chains, I have never experienced such instrumental knowledge and above and beyond customer service. I purchased a 00-28 from them, after they did everything possible to accommodate me (James to be specific). There are always two sides to a story regarding reviews, being in the business so long, I have been privy to (too many) of them, some plus and some minus. Quoting an old saying, I finally concluded that "the world is full of critics, yet there are very few authors".
These folks are authors, so judge for yourself, I did, and they have earned my very "difficult to obtain" trust, no need to say more. Michael Rosandich Musician's and Composers Network, ASCAP, and so on, Mission Viejo, CA.

I'm not sure why there are only 3 reviews here. This is the most incredible guitar shop ever. There is absolutely no better place to buy a PRS or fender guitar. Eric Cummings basically runs the place and he is so honest and helpful. They have a huge selection of guitars and best part is that the guitars are not on the demo floor for people to walk in and play.
I am all the way in Southern California and every guitar I have purchased here has arrived flawless and expertly setup. Give this place a chance. You will not be disappointed and make sure you ask for Eric. He's the best!

Just received a Fender American 52 Hot Rod Telecaster that was my first purchase from Willcutt guitars. Buying a guitar site un-seen is an act of faith, and often a difficult transaction based On gut judgement. The seller is your virtual eyes, ears, and hands. Their online reputation is critical.and hopefully ultimately earned. Having said that, I've bought and sold nearly 300 guitars.
This transaction with Willcutts guitar was excellent. My guitar is custom shop "quality" and Willcutts made me an extremely fair deal. I really didn't have any expectations other than the honest evaluation "James" had shared with me prior to my purchase. He sent pictures via txt and a very true detailed evaluation of the guitar. But what really surprised me after it arrived was the setup.
I know this sounds like a canned testimony.but the setup was the absolute best I've had on a new online guitar purchase. After dealing and playing guitars for 40+ years, the excitement level wanes. Trust me. But this experience was a stand out. So, never before have I left a testimony for a guitar purchase, but today my expectations were exceeded and I'm stoked about the whole buying experience from Willcutts. Thank you guys. I'm really happy with my new Telecaster. No, I love it, Curtis Ogle

Willcutt Guitar Shoppe is truly one of America's last great guitar stores, one among so rare a breed that my girlfriend and I took the road trip of a lifetime from DC to KY to visit the place and fetch the guitar of my dreams. I wanted to reward myself with a new Tele when I was waiting for my first book deal (which did come through). But to numb the pain, we drove out to Willcutt to snag a gem of a Custom Shop 67 New Old Stock tele I found on their website, which features hi-res photos of the instruments from various angles.
Not only did the wonderful staff there drop the price on the instrument for me, they sent me a video clip of the instrument being played through an amp comparable to the one I had at home. Our visit to the store was incredible, and worth the 1,100-mile drive. We spent all morning checking out instruments. I played a CBS-era tele and a '51 NOS Nocaster through a bright and crackly Vibrolux Reverb just for kicks.
When it was time to check out, Bob Willcutt, the owner and a master luthier himself, engaged in a long chat with us about his old DC haunts before he personally checked the intonation of each string and set the action for me. Where will you get service like that these days? If Willcutt was closer, I'd go every couple of months. The selection of high end Fenders, other guitars, and both classic/vintage and new boutique amps is unreal. It might be a long drive through the Appalachians from the East Coast out to Kentucky. But you've got to drive through clouds to reach Guitar Heaven.
