Services
Founded in 2001 by Bob Beerman, the Bass Violin Shop opened as a small double bass repair shop in Greensboro, NC. Over the years, double bass players from all over the country have placed trust in us to maintain their current instruments or help them find inspiration in a new double bass. In 2011 we purchased and renovated a 3,000 square foot building on the northwest edge of downtown, and are now staffed by five full-time employees. Our reputation has been built upon offering high quality instruments and repairs at affordable prices.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of restoring double basses is that we are merely caretakers of these instruments for a short period of their lives. It is humbling to know that they will continue to make music long after we are gone. Our goal is to treat these instruments with care and dignity to preserve the history and make the next repair person's job pleasant.
Choose from a selection of the finest hair, including traditional white, salt & pepper, black, or chestnut! We offer a variety of tip plate materials, including fossilized mastodon ivory, imitation ivory, and synthetic Tip Armor! We replace both frog and button pearl, and offer traditional pearl, abalone, and synthetic options.
Whatever your playing needs, we listen carefully and work hard to get the most out of your double bass without blowing your budget. We don't rush anything we do, so each job gets the time it requires to be done right! Our customers are amazed at what we can do for the playability and sound of their double basses!

Worth the drive, even if it's 2 hours! I had a bass that I had already taken to another luthier that I had all but given up on- tight action, dead sound, hard to play, no sustain. Brought it to these guys and one week later it's a new instrument. They did a fingerboard dressing and bridge rework, and the difference is astonishing. Really they are the best around, and you shouldn't compromise on who is working on your instruments. Can't recommend them enough.

Where is that 6th star option? I can't say enough about the professional level of service, the expertise, and inventory at the BVS. Driving 3 hours each way to see them paid off majorly for me. SO many great sounding basses, perfectly set-up. They never lost patience with me after trying out dozens of their double basses. I came for a different bass, but after much testing and guidance from Cody, as well as Bob, Sanders, Tony and Teresa, I found a completely different bass which just simply spoke to me.
I can not overstate how great a company this is. They are TOTALLY FIRST RATE luthiers, they all play bass, and they know their craft. This is not the last bass I will be buying from them. Visit them one time and you'll see exactly what I mean. 6 stars.

Recently sold my double bass on consignment through the "Bass Violin Shop" in Greensboro, NC. Bob and Cody were very knowledgeable and professional in assessing and pricing the bass. Marketing of the bass was beautifully done. Updates and communications about pricing adjustments and sale of the bass was prompt and utterly professional. The bass sold to, I trust, a happy owner and the whole experience was hopefully a win - win - win for all. Great people!

They let us try out different sizes of double basses. He showed so many things about the bass. He was patient and let us explore on our own for a bit. They repair, sell, and rent bass violins. While there, we even got a mini concert of other more prolific players who were also trying out different basses.

Entire staff made the long-distance bass buying process a pleasant experience. Bass arrived with an issue, Bob went out of his way to make it right and handled a difficult situation with pure class. I could not be more pleased with how they do business. Next time I need an instrument or bow they will be my first stop. Thanks Bob!
