Luthier James R. DeCava was born and raised in Stratford, Connecticut. As a young teenager, he started playing guitar and banjo and soon realized that if something needed repair on his instruments, he had to do it himself as there were few repair people around at that time.
Services
I hope you're doing well! Last weekend I played your jazz mandolin plugged in with the jazz trio at the Hammond Museum. We were the background music at an art opening, but after "In The Mood" (goofy, I know!) on your mandolin, the whole place applauded. Last night I took it to an Irish session at the Quiet Man pub in Peekskill (I have a monthly paid gig there with a singer, woooh!).
I am now doing repairs on quality acoustic guitars, mandolins, and banjos. My minimum charge is $200 with an initial deposit of $75. Call or email me if you have questions. Normal turn-around time in the local area for typical repairs has been 10 -15 working days. I don't believe in holding up instruments for too long. Of course, work requiring finishing or multiple gluing operations, etc. may take longer.
