Took a used tenor sax and the shop changed 1 or 2 pads along with a deep clean for a really good price. Their work was quick and now there's no leaks at all. Not only that but chatting with the owner was a pleasure and he's super knowledgeable about brands. Even if you don't need an instrument repair, check it out because there's a few collectible instruments laying around!

I rarely leave a negative review, however, my experience with David's Instrument Repair was so disappointing that I must share & hopefully spare someone else the same frustration. My son & I dropped off his saxophone in mid-June. We talked to David for approximately 20 minutes about what we wanted done - basically everything except re-lacquering - "the works." The instrument was already in playing condition; my son had been playing it through middle school.
We agreed to fix it up for him for high school. David was very friendly & gave us an estimate of $650. We knew he would need the rest of the summer to complete the work, and he said it would be tight, but he could have it done by the 1st day of school - 8/19 for us. I noticed a couple things - 1. As we were talking, he did not write anything down-details about what we wanted done or the date we needed the work done by.
I figured either he was one of those people that has an impeccable memory or he would write it all down right after we left. There was a young man, probably a high school student, working with him who entered our information in the computer & printed a receipt/ticket. 2. The ticket did not contain any details either, but the young man confirmed with David to enter the work to be done as "playing condition." David said he knew what to do with it, since he had spoken to us at length.
Since we hadn't heard a peep, in early August, I called to check in. The young man I spoke to checked with David, and he said it wasn't done yet but would be by 8/19 & someone would call when it was done. I hadn't heard anything by 8/17, so I called again. The lady I spoke to checked with David, and he said it would be done by 8/19. She added that she couldn't give me an exact price, but it shouldn't be a lot for replacing a few pads.
Wait - Whaaat? I told her it was supposed to have a lot more than a few pads replaced. My hope was that she was the one who was confused. She said she would ask David to call me the next day. He called me on 8/19 - the day we were supposed to pick it up & asked what work we wanted done. His ticket said "playing condition" which meant replacing a few pads.
He had the saxophone for 8 weeks, and he had not touched it. Are you kidding me? He did not acknowledge that the mistake was on his part, nor did he make any attempt at service recovery. My husband & I picked it up that day, and he only apologized when prompted. We're very frustrated that the saxophone sat all summer; we could have taken it to another repair shop, so our son would have had it for the start of the school year. Now, we're having to rent an instrument, so his can be repaired.

I had a very positive experience in May 2019 when I purchased a vintage Benge trumpet from David's Instrument Repair. David was extremely helpful and honest regarding the horn and when I received it the instrument was even better than he had described it. The transaction went smoothly with Maureen's help, and the trumpet arrived on schedule and was packed very securely. A good experience from start to finish.

One of the keys on my flute was bent and my flute teacher recommended that I should go to David's Instrument Repair to get it fixed. So my parents took me there to get it fixed. When I stepped into the shop, there was a person playing the saxophone. I told David my problem and he fixed it in a few minutes. It was amazing. When we asked him how much it cost, he said it was just a small problem and he doesn't charge anything. I really appreciate him fixing my flute. He is a very nice guy. If I could, I would rate his shop 10 stars.
