Down Home Guitars is fantastic. I have a vintage 1969 Gibson acoustic 12 string that was my fathers. It's also the guitar my brothers and I learned on as kids. It had some cracks and was coming apart. I trusted Steve with the guitar to repair it and make it solid again. What a fantastic job. Now I don't have to worry about losing my family treasure. Forever grateful. Thanks

I am very impressed with this shop - both with the quality of their inventory as well as the responsiveness and professionalism of the staff. I brought in a guitar for potential trade, and Steve shot me straight with the value of it and what would be the best bang for my buck. I wound up getting a Collings from them and I will be back. Well worth the drive into Illinois despite the tolls.

Been to a lot of guitar stores in my life - it's hard to find a small shop with a better collection of high end acoustic guitars (Lowden, Bourgeois, Collings, Martin customs, etc.), let alone in IL. They specialize in the AAA instruments, but they stock a lot of options and price ranges; service is excellent. All guitars are set up extremely well. Steve the owner was very helpful and informative, and straight-forward. I'm very happy with my new guitar. Would've saved a lot of time had I gone here first! Thanks!

After 18 months of wanting a Waterloo WL-14 LTR acoustic guitar, i tried one in Portland, OR. It had the V neck and I was not sure I'd be happy with that long term. I went to Waterloo's website and found the dealers in Chicago. I thought I'd call and ask them if they could describe the C neck vs. the V neck over the phone. I spoke with Steve who was very helpful.
He told me he that they were applying a small discount to that guitar to which I hung up and waited a week before calling back to discuss further. I spoke with Steve and he remembered who I was, and we did the deal. He had to select between two they had in stock and I went with his recommend. After receiving the guitar, I cannot stop playing it. It is fantastic and Down Home Guitars was great to deal with. Steve provided excellent customer service. Thanks!

I am so impressed with the service we received from Steve yesterday. He so generously gave of his time when we brought in 9 guitars to see their approximate value, as they are part of my brother's estate. He had customers coming and going during the 1 1/2 hours we were there, yet gave us his full attention while painstakingly checking various websites to give us a thorough and accurate idea as to how much each guitar was worth.
We knew nothing about guitars when we walked into the store (beautiful, clean, and organized by the way) but had a pretty good idea of what we should look for that determines the value of a guitar by the time we left. If I played guitar I would definitely do business with Down Home Guitars. Molly, too, was very willing to help but she was busy tending to all the customers!

Steve, the owner, is amazing. I first met Steve about a year ago and at the time I was throwing around the idea of learning to play the guitar. He took the time to explain hows the store is set up and which guitar would fit me the best. A year later I saw Steve at an open mic night and told him I started to play the bass guitar. We talked about classes and he suggested trying Tom M for at least one session.
I did take the one class with Tom and I was sold. He understood where I wanted to go with my lessons and the first thing he said to me. "I have a lesson plan made for you for the next few years." Impressive. I am now having a lot of fun taking lessons from Tom. Thank you Steve for your recommendation of an amazing teacher.

This place is the best high-end guitar store in Chicagoland! Great people that treat their customers fairly and have superb guitars! For the high-end guitar user this is the place to go when you want a new toy or to make a trade in swap deal. They are very fair. I'm extremely happy after leaving there.

Our school district recently purchased ukuleles for the students and teachers in our elementary schools. Steve Haberichter worked directly with Cordoba to get us the best price and to make sure that the large purchase went smoothly from start to finish. After the order was placed, Steve was responsive to inquiries and kept me informed frequently on shipment status.
Once the order was delivered, Steve arranged the pick up outside of normal business hours to accommodate our scheduling needs. Steve is both courteous and gracious and his customer service is top-notch. I highly recommend Down Home Guitars!

I've been taking lessons here for almost three months and I love it. As an adult trying to learn an instrument for the first time I was super nervous to start but Molly made me feel at ease right away. Miriam Rose is my instructor and she's great. She's got a ton of patience with me and is just super sweet and talented. I look forward every week to my lesson day and will be attending for a long time in the future. Proud to support a local independent business that really cares about their customers and students.

My experience with Down Home Guitars has been nothing less than first class. The staff is pleasant, professional and knowledgeable. The inventory consists of just about anything and everything a picker might be interested in and they are committed to serve everyone from the beginner to the touring professional. I've purchased two Collings instruments from the store and Steve personally made sure that I found the instrument I was looking for at a price I could afford. I've toured the country and have visited many guitar stores. Down Home Guitars easily ranks as one of the best!

Down Home Guitars is an excellent place to purchase an instrument - the walls are filled with guitars, banjos, mandolins, etc. - all top quality, from starter models to the premier collectables. I have performed in the concert room numerous times and the space provides an excellent listening opportunity for any type of music. All of this in addition to the fact that Steve and his staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about instruments and sound - and they offer lessons on most string instruments. I feel fortunate to have such a top quality store so close to my home - they always have whatever musical supplies I need.

Down Home Guitars is a true gem of not only Frankfort Illinois, but the entire Chicago Land Area. They serve not only as a high end acoustic instrument shop, but also as a music school, an intimate music venue, a shop for everyday music items and instruments, and a place where musicians of all levels have the opportunity to play with and for one another at their weekly Jam Sessions and monthly Open Mic Nights.
The people are friendly and I always feel welcome when I am there. I attend the Down Home Guitars' concert series regularly. The venue is perfect! The walls are aligned with top of the line hand-crafted, American-made instruments and there is not a bad seat in the house (which holds about 60). It is simply gorgeous. I especially appreciate the complimentary wine, craft beer, and snacks that they have to offer at each show.
That really adds a nice touch to the evening. Down Home Guitars is doing it right! Steve and Molly (who run the store) are the kindest of people and everyone that works there seem to be pretty knowledgeable about music and their instruments. I would definitely recommend this store for anyone who is looking to take music lessons, buy and instrument (high or low end), get a repair done, see a good show, play an open mic, or just to become part of the Down Home music community that they have created and welcome everyone to be a part of.

The store carries beautiful high-end acoustic instruments. They also hold some impressive seminars and concerts. If you want the very best and can spend 6K on a guitar then this store may be for you. With a larger wallet, perhaps you will receive better treatment than I did. The red-haired owner of this store is probably the rudest retail store owner I have ever experienced.
Of course, I wasn't there to spend thousands of dollars. I simply went there to buy picks, strings, tab books, and to explore and discuss instruments with other music lovers. My initial visits were often greeted by cold, stiff, and awkward personalities. After multiple visits, I expected things would warm up, and while some staff were friendly, it was never a comfortable experience. This was especially true whenever the owner was present. Pompous and arrogant seem apt descriptions, and small talk and small wallets are beneath him.
