We are a family owned and operated music store located in an 1892 storefront in the historic downtown district of Brevard, NC, near Asheville. We specialize in traditional acoustic stringed instruments, accessories and recordings. We sell a variety of new, used, handmade, and vintage instruments in price ranges to fit any budget. We are dedicated to assisting our customers in finding the right instrument, and to helping them achieve their goals of learning to play the music of our western North Carolina mountain heritage.
Services
Lo & Mary Gordon came to Brevard with their children Tim & Matt Gardner, in 1993. They were looking for the ideal small mountain town to pursue their favorite pastime of playing old time mountain music. After realizing that there was no serious music store serving the large local population of bluegrass, folk & old time players, they decided that a traditional music store would be the perfect complement to Lo's plans to build banjos.
We can re-string your instrument for you, or do a major repair. Our violin repairs are performed by Lyle Reedy, and Bob Hamilton is available for band instrument work. We provide private lessons for electric, classical & acoustic guitar, electric & acoustic bass, old time & bluegrass banjo, old time & bluegrass fiddle, beginning violin, mandolin, piano, voice, and drums.
We feature our own hand made Cedar Mountain banjos, Lyle Reedy fiddles, TK O'Brien dulcimers, as well as very affordable imported brand name instruments like Recording King, Morgan Monroe, Gold Tone & Savannah. We take pride in our selection of musical products. In addition to high quality, affordable instruments and accessories, we have a wide variety of books & instructional materials for string & band instruments and piano. We also carry CDs by local & regional traditional & bluegrass artists, as well as ourselves.
Presents children in the Appalachian mountains with the opportunity to learn the old time & bluegrass music traditions of our heritage. The Tran-sylvania County chapter began in the fall of 2011, and Celestial Mountain Music is proud to be the instrument provider. For 20 years, Mars Hill College has offered classes in old time music during the 2nd week in June.
