Services
We offer lessons here at the studio on violin, viola, cello, and piano. Please contact us for more information about our lesson program. We also have a list of teachers and local music schools throughout the state that we can recommend to you based on your location, style of music, learning needs. Verbal appraisals are available by appointment starting at $30.
We offer sales of violins, violas, cellos, and basses from entry level student quality through high end professional quality, both new and used. We are a dealer for all of the major brands and models on the market. We also have a large selection of older, quality instruments. Visit our Fine Instrument division for higher end instruments at www.hammellhouseviolins.com.
All plans offer optional insurance for violin, viola and cello. Insurance for basses is required. All plans except the Elite are for a beginning student level outfit including the instrument, case or bag, bow and rosin. The Elite plan is for a higher quality outfit. Cellos and basses come with soft bags but you have the option of upgrading to a hard case.
If you are unable to get this information from your teacher, here are some simple guidelines to help you determine which size would be appropriate for your child. Have your child extend his/her left arm parallel to the floor with the palm facing upward. For violin sizes look at the following list and choose the one that is the closest to your measurement.

I had the privilege of meeting with violin maker and musical instructor Erika Safran Sahar, who provided me with a most excellent introduction to the cello, of which I have great interest in learning how to play. First impressions can often make a difference in how you approach your calling to a discipline and art such as the study of music, and I must say that Erika's patience and guidance walking me through trying different instruments, and looking at my posture and technique whilst acquiring a comfort level with the cello, was in a word "outstanding".
So much so, that I am excited about the prospect of learning cello, and am now acquiring an instrument, and have indeed scheduled my first lesson. All in all, a truly wonderful experience. I would say that if anyone finds themselves in a situation where they are seeking answers for their musical instrument needs, the Violin Doctor, along with Erika and her associates, would be a superior choice.

The only place to go for rentals, purchases and repairs of orchestra instruments. Professional and knowledgeable. We've rented a cello for a few years from Violin Doctor and will most likely purchase one in the near future. Erika also provides lessons for children and adults in the shop. This is a speciality shop so hours vary and appointments are recommended. The knowledge and service is worth it.

The finest string instrument sales and repairs in the state. Friendly service, fair prices, and excellent workmanship. I cannot recommend this business highly enough - they have not only repaired and rebuilt instruments for my own use, but supplied wonderful European violins for my students at good, moderate prices. The Violin Doctor is an invaluable resource for New Jersey string players.
