Ellsworth Music started in the year 2000 and it wasn't long before the store expanded in 2002 with two locations in Shepherdstown and Charles Town, West Virginia. Today, we have one location that has lessons, retail, repair. Our School of Music has an additional nine studios and performance space. We supply area musicians - novice to the experienced - with all their musical needs.
Our goal is to provide the highest standard of private musical instrument study in the area. We feel any person, at any age, who desires to learn a musical instrument can learn to play and enjoy the instrument of their choice. In the beginning we don't know our own, or our child's, potential in any endeavor. We do know, however, that the playing of an instrument can reveal a variety of paths in life that otherwise might not be traveled.
One instrument is not more difficult or easier than another to learn. All instruments will have technical challenges presented to the player sooner or later. Choose the instrument that "speaks" to you. There are numerous studies showing that learning any musical instrument will encourage positive cognitive development.
The Ellsworth School of Music has lessons in person and online through Zoom and other platorms. Now is the optimal time to start a new instrument or maybe its time for a restart! Playing a musical instrument is an acquired skill best learned through private tutoring. This process has positive consequences that benefit the student in many facets of their life throughout the years.

My very first piano lesson at 45 years old was with Ellsworth Music School. I had the sweetest piano teacher, Janet H. She taught me so much in two years. She was not only my piano mentor but she became my friend. She challenged me and made me toe the line. I'd still be a piano student had we not moved to Colorado. Thanks for the memories and friendship Ellsworth!

Repairs less than satisfactory, had a guitar repair that left my guitar damaged, they restrung the guitar and charged me for the strings without asking if I wanted it done first and restrung it terribly. Had a saxophone repair too, when I got it back it was only halfway fixed. Good place if you need a reed but would not get repairs from here.

Really great music store. The prices are a bit high but also negotiable. Most of the staff is friendly and seem very inclusive. The only reason I knocked off two stars is because of the private lessons. We had at least one transaction that was never resolved from a cancellation. The biggest issue was my violin teacher (S. A.). She was nice and knowledgeable but very unresponsive, a bit flighty and pushy.
The last couple times I had to cancel, I never got a response from her. Then I informed her that I'd be taking a break from lessons since we were busy with our move, and again, no response or acknowledgement. I even told her I would let her know when I was ready to start back up, but after that, obviously I will not be returning to her again. Very disappointed but relieved to cut ties and move on in my violin journey.

I have found this music store to be very good because of the quality of the instruction my children received through the instructors; my daughter is learning a lot and enjoying the violin again. My son started taking cello lessons here a few years back;, I was very pleased with his progress. I purchased a cello and a violin through the store and was happy with the value.
