Services
For over four decades, Osmun Music has been providing the brass & woodwind community with professional repair services. From pulling a stuck mouthpiece to complete mechanical & cosmetic overhauls of instruments, our combination of experience and expertise can benefit any brass or reed player in need of routine or emergency instrument repair.
Blueprinting is a process that we have developed to enhance each instrument that we work on to perform as the highest example of its make and model. Most instruments today are built in factories that use assembly lines to keep costs low. This can lead to oversight in the finish product and creating deviations from one instrument to the next.
Whether it's reviving an old mouthpiece or adapting a new one to better suit your needs, we can help. To schedule mouthpiece services call us at 978 823-0580, email us, or schedule online for same day service. Most modifications are shipped in 24-48 hours. Refinishing takes about three weeks. Send us your mouthpiece with instructions and a return address, phone number, and email.
We start out by making a cast of your cup and rim using metrology rubber. Metrology rubber is specially designed for taking measurements. It doesn't change dimensions when it dries and requires no release agent (which can affect dimensions). Since it's flexible it lets us measure undercut rims and the outside of horn rims.
Instruments may be returned up to seven days from receipt. Any returned instruments must be clean, undamaged, unmodified, include all the original packing materials, accessories, warranty cards, etc., and are subject to a 5% restocking fee. In addition, new unlacquered instruments are subject to a clean-up charge.

When I called I asked if they could restore my 40 some odd year old Holton 179 to like new condition with a rotary valve rebuild. Bob boasted it would be better than new. I've been playing it for a couple of months now. Bob was right. I have never played a finer horn and I could not be more pleased.

In December I dropped off three trumpets. 1. Yamaha 8310Z, kicked over at a Christmas stroll, third valve slide stuck, big ding where the bell starts out of the first valve. 2. Bach 180 C trumpet, multiple dings, especially on the second valve slide. 3. An old King cornet, dear to my heart as I purchased it from the late, great Dr. Robert Kidd. First and second slide welded in with dirt, third slide not moveable by a pinky finger. Tim said, end of January.
A man of his word, I got an email last week. After trekking from the Cape, he let me (and my wife) into the shop ten minutes early, escorted us to the facilities and behind my back placed my horns on the counter. Upon returning to the front of the shop, I could not stop the words rolling off my tongue, OH MY F.g GOD. There were my horns looking better than the day I bought them.
I even examined the valves to find they were buffed and beautiful. I dropped off a few more to get ready for Easter gigs and will expand this review in April. Why schlep to Boston or NYC, when service of this calibre is a gentle ride to Acton? Many, many thanks! Thom Bober Brentwood Brass

Took a 1970's Bach Strad 37 that I recently picked up on EBay in for a pinhole leak in third valve knuckle. It also had a pretty good dent and bend in the back bell tube which the tech recommended repairing. When I opened the case at pick up I was amazed how great it looked. If you hadn't seen it before you would hardly know that trumpet had been worked on. Absolutely superb workmanship. Thanks guys!

Many thanks to Tim Cote at Osmun Music! I had a Precision Valve Alignment (PVA) and Chemical Cleaning/Ultrasonic Cleaning done on my 2005 Vincent Bach Stradivarius 180S37, and I'm absolutely thrilled with the results. I've always taken very good care of my horns, but the work completed at Osmun Music produced results I never could have achieved on my own.
In addition to completing the PVA and professional cleaning, Tim removed a few dents in my leadpipe and bell. I haven't seen this horn in such great condition since I brought it home for the first time. I'd absolutely recommend Osmun Music to my friends and family!

I am so happy with the workmanship in this company, I have brought two trumpets here the first an old family trumpet that needed the bell hammered out and a 1941 silver plated Conn that I recently bought and brought directly here to get back into working condition. When I picked it up from them it looked like a new trumpet with all the miscellaneous dings unnoticeably repaired as well as a missing piece soldered back on. All of the work very reasonably priced. This is the only place I will bring my trumpets.

Very well-run business. We had one Yamaha clarinet repaired and cleaned. The transaction was excellent. On the phone we were told to bring the instrument in and consult with the clarinet specialist. He was informative and was able to give a rough estimate of the work and cost. I was surprised how quickly amd well the work was finished. Very satisfied. Will bring in a brass trombone soon. Also purchased a p-bone here.

This place does amazing and quick work. They serviced my modified Bach 42 and it left the shop working and looking better then when I first purchased the horn. They realigned my slide, fixed several large dents, and relacquered my bell. I have posted the fixed horn bellow (Sorry, no before pictures).

I cannot say enough good things about the people at Osmun. Jim, the repair technician, takes true pride in his work and it shows. Regardless of how much you paid for your instrument, they will treat it with respect. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, happy to share information, and the work they do is meticulous and precise. They have worked on three French horns for me now and I am thrilled with the results.

I was referred to Osmun Music by musicians in the Boston area. It's pretty far outside the city, but the drive is pleasant and the service is worth it! I own a pretty rare vintage trombone that had been in storage for a long time. I wanted to give it a decent cleaning, slide alignment if needed, and any other services that Jim (the trombone tech) deemed necessary.
My trombone was evaluated by both Jim and the gentleman at the front desk. They quoted me a price for a basic setup, which I agreed to. I'm on tour and so this was kind of a rush job, but they generously offered to fit me into their VERY busy service schedule. I expected the work to be finished at the end of five days, but was surprised to receive a call within 24 hours that trombone was ready!
This was extremely convenient for me. When I got the horn back I took the slide out right there in the shop to see how it felt. AMAZING! Significantly better than when I'd brought it in. Jim did an absolutely fantastic job. Plus the horn is nice and clean and ready to play. I'm very happy with the service I received here, and would recommend Osmun Music's repair and cleaning services to both professional and amateur musicians. Sidenote: although Osmun Music's main business seems to be repairing instruments, they also sell cleaning accessories, mutes, instruments, and mouthpieces made by Bob Osmun himself.

The staff helped me select a fabulous horn to trade up to and offered me a very fair trade-in for my previous horn. I have enjoyed shopping at Osmun since 2010. Their selection of accessories, instruments and mutes is tops in New England. Their knowledge and efficiency is unrivalled as well. I am amazed that I can have a chemical horn cleaning performed the same day I drop off the instrument. Just waiting for Osmun to make patches so I can advertise for them on cases, bags or hats.
