Gordy's Music WE can get you much MORE$$$$ for your instruments on CONSIGNMENT than if we buy them from you. WE have a VERY strong presence online and with our upcoming GUITAR SHOW so give us a call. Had a very nice visit from my old friend John Idan of the 'Yardbirds' at our store. He strolled on in from England for a couple of hours we just had a BLAST!

Talked about old times, he was coming up with some memories from the mid-70's I sure as hell forgot about. We used to jam a lot back then. He was my neighbor, I was playin' bars 6 nights a week and he was just a kid.

Gordy's Music was established in April of 1986 the same year as Vintage Guitar Magazine. I had been working in music stores and dealing in used guitars and amps since 1970. My wife Marcia and I started attending guitar shows in 1986 after we opened and are the founders and promoters of the Michigan Annual Guitar Show which we started in 1989.
We sold Albert's Tele to a Blues lover who actuall saw, admired, loved, and met Albert at a Blues club in Austin, Texas. The guitar found a Good Loving Home! Finally. I have known Erik Smith for 30 years and I feel honored to be the one to represent Albert's second stage guitar that he played for about 8 of his last remaining years, , this guitar is NOT for everyone, ,, but it did need a new home, , the story though is yours to read and keep. The guitar was a 1985 Fender Telecaster Custom reissue w/binding and was made in Japan.

If you are looking for Great used musical equipment, Gordy's is the place to be. I bought my Les Paul from him July of '93 and to me It was one of the greatest purchases I've ever made.

I always thought expensive guitars sound great because they are expensive. Just had my cheap guitar adjusted, now it's sounds like a million bucks. Good work, fair price.

I've been going to Gordy for more than 25 years. Always fair and honest. Great workmanship. His tech set up my Washburn, Tele and Les Paul recently. For my Washburn they actually rewound my pick up because it was an unusual finish and a replacement would have looked horrible. I bought a sweet hardshell for my Tele and 3 gig bags. Also 4 straps. Great prices and just an all around great place to bring your guitar. Also a great place to buy great gear. You need to call this man and give him your business.

I've had an expensive Goodrich volume pedal repaired here, I bought a vintage amp here, and I just picked up my Gretsch White Falcon after a set up and a Bigsby change. Every single time, the communication is excellent, the guys are friendly, and their tech work is fantastic. I love this place, and I recommend them to everyone, especially people serious about their gear.

Super friendly people. The owner Gordy is awesome. Recently did some repairs on my Marshall amplifier and I was treated like family. Very fair prices. Will definitely be using them again.

This is a great, laid back, super friendly music store. Lots of great stuff, fair prices, and Gordy is open to "bundling & haggling", which is both fun and good business. Highly recommended!

This place has the best laid back vibe ever. If you want to make music Gordy will help you with what you need. The guitar techs typically can do the job right away even while you are there. The books I want them all. Vintage guitars have the best voices hope you find your("Lucille") muse guitar here. Gordy always tests the equipment for you and if your not satisfied he will even exchangethem. He has Tuners, harmonica holders, cables. It's a great place to shop. Stay tuned

Gordy is the real deal. He and his guys seriously know what they're doing. If you need anything done to your gear from the smallest repair to an upgrade or really anything, these guys are the ones you want doing it. They're straight up, fair and nice to boot. Willing to deal and give information, or just shoot the shit about equipment. He's not trying to get rich off of anyone, he just wants happy musicians and fair deals.

If you're looking for a Guitar Center type experience, this ain't your joint. Come here for rare finds and loved equipment. I came in with a new Jaguar I received as a birthday gift for a basic set-up. It was done while I waited for a more than fair price. I plugged it in to a used Hot Rod Deville 212 to make sure it felt right, and it was right on.

It sounded so good, in fact, that I decided to buy the Deville as well. Gordy worked with me on the price and I left beaming. When I got home and warmed up the amp, it started dropping the lows. I brought it back and told Gordy what was going on. He offered my money back or a free fix. I gladly left it there to be worked on and a few days later I came back and it was as good as new, so I dropped off my Strat for an all around tune up and went home with my new-to-me Deville and have been shaking the walls since.

It's nice to go in and talk to Gordy, Just for the sake of talking to him about his experience in the music business, especially, when he talks about living crossed the street from my grandparents. Plus, he's willing to work with you on payment plans on most of the stuff in his shop. Super cool.

I discussed selling some of my vintage instruments with the proprieter at length a few weeks ago, yet something came up and I wasn't able to make it by the store. Due to unseen circumstances (Chase bank allowing my checking acct to be hacked and emptied) I've taken a financial hit requiring me to act fast. When I called the shop today to just reaffirm interest in my Vox Jaguar organ and other vintage pieces, I was told that he was busy "getting real work done" and that I shouldn't come in today because he didn't want to deal with receiving the instruments I presume. If I were totally honest I'd say there was a grudge being held here, which just is inexcusable in a professional setting.

I love this place. Gordy was nothing but nice, honest, and professional when it came to selling one of my guitars. Because of that, I came back with a second one for him to sell. You can trust a guy who has been in business as long as he has. Forget the big chains (GC) and start with a truly independent store with an owner who knows what he's doing. Highly recommended.

Gordy is the man. I came in looking for a less-expensive guitar for a Christmas present for my nephew. I bought an acoustic Crestwood, upon Gordy's suggestion, and it sounded great for a cheaper guitar. He threw in a gig bag for a third of its original price as well as a free guitar strap peg install. I bought a strap to go with it. It all ended up at $159. Unfortunately, I'd forgotten that I I needed an acoustic electric.

I came back to Gordy and told him I needed to return the guitar. He didn't have any acoustic electric guitars in stock but he had two delivered a few days later and called me to let me know they were in. He exchanged the acoustic Crestwood I bought with the acoustic-electric version of the same guitar.for free! I was happy that I was able to spend my money at Gordy's and keep it there.

I am so thankful he was able to work with my needs and also give me incredible customer service and good deals. I will definitely be seeing Gordy more often for my own guitar needs.

OK, here's the flip side to that other post. Gordy has been a fixture in the Detroit scene for at least 30 years. He's the promoter of the Michigan Guitar Show, and also sells mostly used instruments and has a decent selection of strings and accessories. It's not guitar center here. There aren't racks of overpriced mass produced products.

What is here is a always different assortment of instruments and amps that his musician clientele brings in when they want to make a change. There is sometimes great stuff, sometimes cheap stuff, sometimes incredibly rare and awesome vintage stuff, you just never know. Prices are fair, and he'll buy your stuff if you need cash. But if you are looking for guitar center, this is not it.

I wanted to support the local music scene instead of going to my usual places like Guitar Center or Musician's Friend online. I heard about this place and decided to head on over-what a waste of gas money and time. The smell of stale cigarette smoke and bad lighting set the mood when you enter. This place has out-dated gear and a very bad selection of books, magazines and what-nots spread out cheaply on tables like a garage sale. Want a guitar strap? There's maybe a whole whooping 5 to choose from! Sparse would be a good word for this store.
