Accordions and Amplifiers and my Mic System. Like many instruments, accordions have trouble keeping up with louder and amplified instruments and over the years people have tried many ways to amplify their sound. One of the earliest accordion amplifying techniques is the crystal microphone, which was starting to come into use by the late 40's.
Sophi Mari 48 bass accordion. We carry these as student accordions and we tune and adjust every one of these before it leaves the shop. MM reeds. Available in several colors. Comes with case and one year warranty $675. New Sofi Mari 72 Bass student accordion. LMM reeds with 15 cent vibrato. I tune and just these instruments before they leave the shop for trouble free performance.
Revalving noisy or missing leathers: Overly stiff or curled (or missing) valves can greatly affect sound and performance. Heat, humidity and age are big culprits. Bellows taping: Regular maintenance of your bellows tape will reduce cost of repairs and may prevent the necessity of a costly bellows replacement, which is hand made overseas.
Q: This accordion I bought off of e-bay doesn't seem to play very well. A: Well, most likely, you got what you paid for. A full size accordion for $150 is probably in need of at least a tuning and rewaxing. Without playing the instrument first, you run a great risk. The thing about a used instrument purchased over the internet is it can difficult to determine problems without methodical investigation.

Well. I brought my fathers Horner there for repair. After 2 months Kim returned me the instrument basically without any exterior repair and said that he was fixing the engine, not the paint. From and estimate of 350 to 450, I was charged 505 dollars and after explaining my disappointment and frustration he said I could stop later for another 5 min repair on the fabric who is broken.
If you spent that much time to fix the instrument, what would be anther 5 minutes to give me an instrument visually restored too? I feel tricked and frustrated for trying to support local business and leaving with a bad taste in my mouth. I find it important to write this down here so if someone else needs an instrument restored they make sure to understand the expectations. If Mr Kim is serious on showing some love to me and my instrument I would be willing to bring it back to complete the service.
