Highly recommend this place if you are seriously interested in purchasing a good violin. The first time I went in the shop I was a bit apprehensive about the place since there are piled up violin & cello cases and instruments which greet you at the door. Out comes Master violin maker Yanfu who greets you with his heavy accent and askes me what kind of violin I am looking for.
I gave him my thoughts and he told me to come back in 2 months and he will make a very good violin. After 2 months, I tried it and sold. I have since recommended 7 people his violins. All purchased and all love the sound of the violin. The great thing is that the sound gets better and better with playing. I looked into Yanfu's biography and indeed he has learned from the great violin makers.
He has also worked on great instruments too. I told him why don't you just do rentals and make cheaper violins to make a lot of money? He told me he would never do that to bring his name down. He is not in it for the money but to be a true master in violin making. As for value, the sound of the violins vs. the price cannot compare. I highly recommend Yanfu's violin.
He says he has a lot of work to do. He says he is not a businessman. Yes I can see that but what you will find is that underneath all that rough spots, you have found a true gem indeed.
