I do my repair work in my shop in my home in Kansas City. I help musicians from all over the Kansas City metropolitan area. I also have done repair and restoration work for musicians from other parts of the country as well. I learned my craft from the late Wayne Trainor of Gladstone, Missouri. I believe that I am quite blessed to work with beautiful instruments on a daily basis. Please contact me if you have any questions or if I might tend to your instrument repair needs. You may phone me at 816-453-6955.

The violin has always been the driving force in my life. I developed an intense love of the instrument early in my childhood after hearing it played through recordings. I began playing the violin at the age of eleven through the North Kansas City School system string program but was unable to seriously study it until the age of twenty-six.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Bill Steel for over thirty years. Bill and I played violin on the same stand in our community orchestra. Mr. Steel is one of the very best string repair technicians in the Kansas City area. He has worked for quality music stores and he has serviced the North Kansas City School District String Department for the past several years.

Our daughter plays violin with the school orchestra. Her instructor notified us of a cracked seam and recommended Bill. Bill is very knowledgeable, honest, and promptly got her violin repaired. He stayed in touch and went above and beyond what we were expecting. We appreciate the fast turn around and value.

Bill is an extremely knowledgeable, and skilled luthier. His work is unmatched in the area, and priced at a great value. His honesty and integrity are beyond reproach. I cannot say the same for any other local violin shop that I've had business with. Besides that, he is an absolute joy, and we always end up staying and chatting with him. Looking to buy a violin or have a stringed instrument repaired? Look no further than Bill's Violin Shop.

We decided to purchase a violin vs renting one for my son in school. After talking to dealers at a school event, I went home and researched options in the Northland. So glad we found Bill! He has been so awesome and I can not recommend him enough! He loves music. He loves what he does. And it shows. Thank you, Bill!

Mr Bill Steele is one of a kind, a true stringed instrument genius, who I'm happy to have called my mentor at one point in my life. From both a student and customer point of view, he's nothing less than spectacular. a true relic of a sadly bygone era. He knows his stuff, and I would trust this man with your little fiddle anywhere, anytime.

Bill took a violin made by hand by my great-great-great-uncle in the 1910''s and made it playable again. He isn't just an expert in his craft, he's a gentleman and a friendly businessman. He isn't one to "nickel-and-dime" you, he values you as a customer, and values your instrument as if it were his own. He took care of our family's violin, put a new bridge and finger-board on it, restrung it, put hair on the bow, put on a chin rest, and more.
He did this in only a week! I am new to the violin, and he had no problem having me pick up one of his and teaching me some of the basics of violin: how to hold it, how to hold the bow, how to move it, posture, etc. I am pleased to have worked with him, and I cherish the violin he helped make into a practical, usable instrument, not just an heirloom that hangs on the wall. I look forward to coming back to see him in a couple of months and playing with him a bit, and I have no doubt he'll set down whatever task he's doing to do so!

I have taken all of my instruments to Bill since I was a kid, and I recommend him to anyone who needs repairs on their string instruments. He does excellent work, and is very friendly. I never feel rushed when working with him, and he goes above and beyond to make sure all of your needs are met or exceeded!
