MIM began with a vision to create a musical instrument museum that would be truly global. Realizing most musical museums featured historic, primarily Western classical instruments, MIM's founder Bob Ulrich (then CEO of Target Corporation) was inspired to develop a new kind of museum that would focus on the kind of instruments played every day by people worldwide.
Although we do not offer discounts, our membership program comes with great benefits, including free museum admission for the entire year. You can purchase admission at Guest Service or buy tickets online to save time on the day of your visit. For help with a purchase, contact MIM's Guest Service team at 480.478.6000.
Whether you're bringing a class of students or visiting with a group of friends and family, one of our many tour options will enrich your experience at MIM. Join one of our museum guides on an Orientation Tour where you will see, hear, and travel the world through music. Guests can drop in for a 30-45 minute tour and see fascinating instruments on display in three of MIM's Geographic Galleries: Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
In every time and place, there are musicians whose art deeply touches the lives of many. MIM's Artist Gallery highlights these personalities with ever-changing exhibits that span sound, style, and era. Through generous partnerships, MIM features historic instruments owned, played, and loved by the musicians who have created a shared soundtrack to our lives for generations.

Impressive all around! I only had 1hr to explore this museum. Ideally you need 3-4hrs to truly appreciate what this museum has to offer. From the history of instruments to different cultures, this museum showcases it very well. I highly recommended it if you're in Scottsdale.

I never knew there was this amazing museum in Phoenix. This incredible experience is truly a treasure and was one of the highlights of my trip. The displays are all fun to see and the audio experience works great. I feel like I learned a ton and had fun exploring so many different types of music and cultures. I definitely need to come back here with my wife and kids.

The Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix AZ is an excellent overall museum experience. The physical building and its layout is not only architecturally beautiful, but its interior is perfectly designed to display the large number musical artifacts in its collection. The quality and cleanliness of its items is also outstanding. The curators of this museum should be very proud of their accomplishment. You should go out of your way to visit and for the best experience, plan on a two day visit. My wife and I will be back.

Amazing! If your wondering if you should visit, the answer is yes! What a great museum! Clean, bright, well laid out, easy to follow. You will get a clean pair of headphones that play all the video clips showing on the screens in each display. We spent 4.5 hours here, our kids enjoyed it too. Their favorite was the Experience Room where you can play a variety of instruments.

We also were lucky enough that we caught an impromptu concert in the patio by the Navy Southwest Brass Band. The museum was packed, but never felt crowed. Other then a few annoying people shouting conversations out loud, it was a great overall experience. Staff were all super kind and friendly. Great value!

This is a wonderful place, not just for musical instruments, but also history and geography and cultures from around the world. Each country display has a map where the country is located, and instruments (and costume /dress) used in that location. The headphones will link to the videos playing on that display screen, which show a few clips of the music in that region, using the instruments you see on display.

There are also displays of musical instrument manufacturers, and displays of each kind of instrument. There is a coffee shop and an outdoor area where there was a live performance that day. The outdoor area is gorgeous, with covered tables, shaded trees areas, water features and landscaping. You are not permitted to carry water or any food or drink through the museum.

I had to check my water bottle at the front. Everyone working was very kind, friendly, and helpful! One lady told me that they have live performances most nights of the week. It is more affordable to buy the membership if you plan on going more than once - which would be great to see more! There is so much here, I had to miss areas since I was only there for 2.5 hours. Overall wonderful place with a wonderful atmosphere!

What a wonderful place! The exhibits are so beautifully arranged. I was nervous about coming with my 6 year old, but especially my 3 year old. The staff was so understanding and patient! We spent most of our time in the experience gallery. There are so many instruments from all around the world for everyone to try playing! It was amazing!

One of the nicest museums we've been to in years. wow. it's gorgeous. love the headphone set up. we should have started in the instrument room where kids can play and touch the bells and drums.they loved that part. i loved the player pianos. only bummed when we bought the tickets they didnt tell us the HUGE Instrument that plays at 9a/1pm.that it only ran like twice a day. we would have bee lined for that. but we had no idea so we missed it. kinda bummed. no military discount.it was expensive for a family of 5. i understand why (it's beautiful) but it was probably too much for an average family to afford for 2-3 hour visit unless they REALLY wanted to which we did. would be neat if they added a musical road outside somewhere (felt like there was a straightaway somewhere around) like they have out in California.

One of the best museums I've had a chance to visit. If you enjoy music in any capacity, I'm sure you'll enjoy the exhibits, but it's especially interesting if you're a musician. There are instruments from popular musicians of all genres. My personal favorite exhibits showcased musical instruments and musical styles of just about every country in the world.

You can easily spend a couple of hours here. Note that you receive a headset and a receiver that allows you to listen to music all over the museum; this could be sensory overload for some.

This place is AWESOME! If you like music, instruments, history, cultural, museums and diversity, this is the place for you! I would recommend going when you aren't in a hurry because you can easily spend all day there. So much knowledge and unique instruments. You get a wide perspective of global Instruments and history. Friendly and knowledgeable staff with a clean and well organized museum. Would absolutely recommend to go and bring your family!
