Strait Music has mirrored its Austin community in so many ways. We have grown, but still have that small town family-owned feel and you can definitely say we have kept it weird. We're proud of our history and we still operate on the same principles set forth by Dan Strait all those years ago. We still pride ourselves as a place "where customers become friends".

Brian at Strait Music South in Austin went out of his way to assist me on line in ordering exactly what I wanted and all on one order in one day and still managed to save me money AND aggravation. I have not seen such professional, quality attention to customer service in eleven years in the Austin area. I would recommend this shop over any! Save money, save sanity, shop Strait. Paul

Big shout out to Eli and Sean! This guitar shop is a national treasure. Eli allowed me to come in with my guitar and test out amps, and was happy to answer any questions, and helped me decide between a few options. And Sean did an amazing job setting up my fiancee's mach 1 and my KM6, was super friendly, very good about keeping in contact and accommodating me. This place also usually has a really good selection of left-handed guitars! Been coming here on and off since I was 15 and happy to keep coming back.

The motto of Strait Music Co. is "a place where customers become friends". I recently purchased a really fine guitar there. I was greeted at the door and Jason helped with choosing an instrument. There are lots of factors but it really comes down to how the instrument feels and sounds to you. I didn't have any guitar skills so Jason demonstrated various models.
He's a fine player. I had Jason's attention through the process and I felt that I was assisted in the best possible way. On subsequent trips to the store to purchase other items or ask questions, Jason and Eli offered their expertise about practice, playing, equipment, and music. Extremely helpful! I'm grateful for their advice. Yesterday, I brought my guitar in for a setup check.
I recommend doing this at the time of purchase but I know few do because we all want to get the guitar home as soon as possible. I talked to Strait's luthier, Sean. He was great. He explained the process to me, told me what needed to be done and did it while I waited. I had called and made an appointment, he's busy so give him a call first. Meanwhile, I talked guitar with my new friends at Strait Music.
A great bunch of guys. Sean brought back my guitar and it played even better. We're talking only thousands of an inch but in the hands of a quality luthier, wow. Strait Music offers full service from purchase through the life of the guitar. Buy local and take advantage of the local expertise. What a great bunch of guys!

Easy 5 Stars for my most recent experience at Strait Music South. When you're truly in the market for something specific, the music store experience can sometimes feel like a pressure cooker. Any sizable investment takes due diligence and its often hard to do proper vetting of an instrument within the confines of a busy store. Over the past week, Strait has been the exception to that rule. Eli helped me with my purchase of a 12 string acoustic guitar and he was top notch to work with.
He was patient and knowledgable, providing great information and insight throughout. I couldn't be more pleased with this transaction and my experience working with Eli. There's a reason Strait has stood the test of time and why I'll always return. Highly recommended to anyone looking for upper echelon gear and service - and be sure to ask for Eli.

Personally, I'm a band nerd, so I've been familiar with Strait Music, but I've never actually taken the chance to visit. I was throughly impressed. They had all the various band instruments but a couple electronic instruments and gadgets. What impressed me the most was their extensive sheet music collection and books in the store. I got to pick up a Blues book that I could play on piano. Also, I got a harmonica because why not? I loved the ambience and everyone is extremely friendly and attentive. I will return again to see if I need anything else!

What a great experience I had at Straight Music! I finally have a child that is going to join band at school, so we went there to explore the different instruments available. I went in explaining that we are going to buy eventually, but that today was about checking available options. There were two gentlemen who helped us and they couldn't have been more helpful or gracious.
They patiently showed us seven different instruments. I did have to buy reeds for the woodwinds to properly test, but that was small price to pay. Absolute excellent customer service! Go here to fulfill all your musical needs!

I've been going to strait music for the entirety of my musical career and they've always been great. I do miss their old instrument repair technician though. I feel the quality of repairs has shifted a bit since they put someone new in that role. A bit hesitant to bring my horn back for a cleaning and repairs but will give them one more shot

Nothing but good things to say about this place. The employees are very friendly. Every single one of them. We were greated and a thank you on the way out. I like that. Very special shout outs, and thanks to Eli from guitar sales. Eli went above and beyond to help my dad purchase a battery powered amplifier.my dad is very satisfied with his buy. And we both are happy on being helped by such an outstanding sales person. If you need a guitar or Amp reach out to Strait Music Company and ask for Eli. I promise you won't be at all disappointed.

Excellent customer service and they have competitive prices. I have bought several items from them, they seem to have pretty much anything you need. One time I brought my son's tuba which it had the mounth piece stucked and one their staff members took the piece out very quickly and he did not want to charge me. They are always very friendly and they really know their stuff. I highly recommend this place:

Great place to go if you want to be ridiculed and shamed for not having expensive instruments. They refused to adjust a key on a flute after calling to make sure they did this "repair". The flute was too cheap for them to lower themselves to work on it. Had the girl been shown any amount of kindness it may have been different but she was very rude and elitist. Shame on you.

Strait is awesome. The team at the North Austin store are friendly, knowledgeable, patient with young kids, and prompt. I regularly come in for guitar strings, accessories, etc. -- they always have exactly what I need, and I never have to search for someone to help me. I came in the other day needing an iPad/mic stand last minute before a gig. They found what I needed, cut me a discount for buying multiple items, and had me out the door in about 5 minutes. I can't recommend Strait enough.

I can't say enough about this business and how they helped me navigate a sound system for karaoke at my 55 plus residence in Round Rock. Curtiss Gonzales, the technical associate was a huge help in giving me advice as to what equipment would serve our purposes, especially the area and the number of mics and speakers and how to mix the sounds.
I went more than once to get his help and assistance. He also gave us some special discounts. Those helped because we were taking collections and donations. I am my residence will continue to return to straight music on 183 because we know we're going to get the best service and advice. I always left satisfied and motivated to try new approaches. Again, I can't say enough about how friendly they are and the type of associates they hire. Martha Smith

Many thanks to Chris Cowart at Strait Music on Ben White for helping me find my newest 6 string. Great selection onsite, easy special orders, and friendly knowledgeable customer service. There is a reason Strait Music is an Austin institution. Now awaiting their work on a neck reset fir an early 50s Gibson. Great place, people, and instruments. Glad to be a customer.

I took my 18 year old Granddaughter to Strait's and bought her her first guitar. The sales person was very supportive and reassuring with her while wisely counseling her on which instrument would fit her best. He was a middle aged guy that was gentle and very experienced with guitars. I wish I remembered his name. Thanks, Strait's!

I have bought a piano and a guitar from this store and have been very happy with the products, prices, and service. Staff members are super friendly and helpful. They encourage you just to sit and play and then leave if that's what you want to do. Of course just sitting and playing and leaving will make you want to come back and buy, and I guess they know this.
But they are very friendly and also know a lot about what they're selling and don't mind sharing it with you. Strait music is a family-owned place, and although I think pretty much all the family are in the South Austin location, this location has a family-run feel. The manager Jack seems like a nice guy and I guess he helps give the place its friendly atmosphere. But I get that sense by all the people he manages. Anyway, I look forward to buying my next instrument as soon as I can here.

Strait's northside shop is a Music & Arts styled shop - that is, their store is split down the middle between piano/orchestral and a modest guitar/bass/drums/keys shop. As I'm a guitarist, I can't speak for the orchestral side. The selection of instruments is a mix of classic and varied, with the token lefty Squier Strat, lonely, forlorn and derelict amid its brethren.
Their acoustic room is the gem of the store, and remains under lock and key to prevent the little kids from wandering in and damaging the $2000 instruments. Their amp rooms are tiny, as their space is next to a repair shop and lesson rooms. Between the practice amps to the classic Fender cleans and rock 'n roll combos, the selection isn't bad.
I wouldn't say it's the greatest either, but I'm more of a British amp guy myself. The wrap-around cash wrap is full of great pedals - the staff does a good job in presenting not only a formidable selection of pedals, but also great value products and a healthy balance between boutique and mainstream. There is a cool selection of high-end electrics on the wall behind the register.
As it should be. I don't think I'm qualified to judge their customer interaction/service, as I've become a bit of a regular, and don't mind making the approach or initiation. The one major criticism I have of the shop is the continuous crutch of propping up their South Austin location as having everything I ask them for. From tone caps, to string inventory, to even guitar setups/repairs, the South location has it all.
I get that this is a satellite store, but seriously, if you have to run my guitar across town for a simple setup, I'd rather just take it in town myself. maybehitupguitarcenterwhileI'mthere. You guys relish not being a big box store, but if the big box store is offering basic parts and services that your location can't. why support local?
If you guys have to special order everything, why don't I just use StewMac or Amazon? In summation: one star off for constantly referencing your other location. I save on shipping for small orders, but once I start needing more, I'll need a reason to come back again and again.

First of all I'm not one to complain. But here goes. I give this place 1 star because they had exactly what I was looking for. But the customer service was horrible. Minus one star for each employee who blatantly saw me but didn't greet me and offer help. I waked in on a Monday at 12 noon. There was someone sitting at the seat to the right, and two guys behind the counter to the right as you walk in.
No one said hi or acknowledged me. So, I walked around to the counter on the other side and there were two other younger guy employees. They did not say hi or ask if I needed help. If they were busy, a "be right with you" would have been nice. One of them ignored me and left the counter. The other one saw me standing right in front of the counter In front of him- he still didn't say anything. I said to him, " can I buy this here?" And he said yeah. I guess I'm not "cool" enough.
