I called to have our piano tuned and took the first available appointment - April 1. When I mentioned that my piano major college student was coming home on Friday for spring break and needed to practice for her senior recital, Tony said, "Well, let me see if I can rearrange things and fit you in before she comes home" He called back later with an appointment on Thursday! I love that he took the time and effort to find a spot for me. We used them before and were pleased with the tuning service itself as well.

Purchasing the piano here was, quite simply, a joy. You walk through the old warehouse past pianos undergoing restoration and assembly to the completely refurbished or brand new models. You see the craftsmanship and care Alice (the owner) and her folks take at every step. They are in no hurry, and if you let them, they will tell you all about piano repair and the nuances of manufacturing. And play some wonderful pieces. They are that rare find: delightful, honest, and as good as their word. Got to love family businesses!

If you want a wide selection of brand new Kawai pianos and a great deal this is NOT the place to go. I repeat. This is NOT the place to go. Brendan tried to take advantage of me when I was in search of a brand new Kawai GL10 or K500. I had a few pianos I could trade in. One of them being a hand built Charles R Walter in pristine condition. He thought I did not know how much trade in value my hand built in U.S.A Charles R Walter had so tried to low ball me.
I talked to other dealers (non local) and they all offered well over double what Brendan offered for my Charles R Walter as trade in credit for a new Kawai piano. I already knew the value of my Charles R Walter and showed Brendan how two other Kawai dealers had offered more than double what he offered so he magically added one grand trade in offer to the Charles R Walter which was still much less than what two other dealers offered.
I wanted to support their local Kawai dealer since they are nearby and but I got a bad feeling when talking with him. He is a very shady salesman. On the day we had scheduled to go buy a brand new KAWAI K500 he messaged me cancelling since he got covid. I emailed him wishing him a speedy recovery and he simply ignored. Extremely unprofessional. I then decided to drive out to Cordogan's PianoLand in Geneva (much further) and they matched what other dealers had offered for my trade in and gave me a much better deal on a brand new Kawai grand piano.
Glad brendan cancelled since I was able to find a much better dealer that provided a more pleasant and transparent experience. If you want a great experience go to Cordogan's PianoLand.

Brendan really went above and beyond in his knowledge of the product, hassle free salesmanship, and exceptional customer service. The whole experience shopping at Family Piano in downtown Waukegan was wonderful. I 'highly' recommend them being your first stop when shopping for a piano. If I could rate higher than five stars I would.

I'd like to give a shout out to Family Piano and Brendan for helping me get my CA-79 Kawai, even with all the hard times due to the pandemic. Patience is key in this time. Right when it came in, the next day I went in, signed up for financing, and it got delivered about forty minutes later, and set up in 20 minutes. Very impressed with this company! And by the way the piano is beautiful! Thanks for giving 110%!

We had a great experience buying a piano at Family Piano. The staff was very knowledgeable and patiently took time to find a piano that fit our needs. We are first time buyers and they answered so many of our questions. They did not push us towards a specific model or a price point. Everyone in the company was also very kind and friendly. It was a pleasurable experience buying a piano from here. Thank you Alice and Brendan and staff!

From the moment we walked into the Niles store, Brendon greeted us and my family got to try different pianos so we know the kind of piano we are looking for. I was looking for a used grand piano and got to try more than 10 different ones. They are the expert for Kawai pianos but they also carry different brands of used grand pianos. Brendon compared different brands to us, including the materials and actions and sound and the touch that is very personal taste.
I tried them all and had my top 2 choices and finally bought the Mason and Hamlin model B. The transaction is very smooth including the shipping and we are very happy with it. After it's shipped to our house, we found a couple of notes were off and Alice came over to fix for us and make sure everything works as it should be. The overall buying experience is GREAT and I would recommend to others who is looking for a piano in the Chicagoland.

Our old Clavinova's feet broke during our move. I'm so glad I contacted Family Piano. Making an appointment was easy. Technician Paul was very responsive and professional. Even though our piano is so old and the same feet are impossible to find, Paul was able to find a solution and I am very happy with the result. Thank you Paul!

I made a cold contact to Family Piano as I began a search for finding a new home for my 60 year old mid-century Hardman Peck player piano. The website provided useful and encouraging information to guide me to help them assess their interest in this project. I provided them what they asked for. I received a response within a day. Alas, this was not a good fit for them.
But rather than get a simple brushoff which would have been fine, I received a very thorough set of prospective contacts and leads to follow up on. It is clear to me from the website and then the useful and prompt response that Family Piano recognized that my musical instrument was not just another piece of aging furniture and that I had a sentimental investment in looking to find it a new home. I believe they shared that sentiment and went above and beyond to help me even though they had no further business interest in doing so.

Great selection of pianos (digital and acoustic) at great prices. Even greater staff who are very nice, knowledgeable and professional. I came for an afternoon to try some of the pianos. When I finally made up my mind several weeks later and placed the order, they dropped off and help set up the piano the next evening. Highly recommend this business.

Ignorance led me to believe the painos at Family Piano were overpriced. I bought one from another local piano seller that is OK but was not in the best condition at all. I hired Family Piano to examine and make repairs as needed on the piano I purchased. Alice came to my home as scheduled and worked all day on my piano and also took time to show me the many intricate parts that I was not aware of.
The entire experience working with Family Piano has been superb. If I buy another piano, it will definitely be from Family Piano. In the meantime, I am grateful to have them work on and tune the one I have. THANK YOU for the education on my piano and the great work you performed. My piano plays better than I ever dreamed. This review is written by a person that only gives praise where it is deserved.

It's not often that I write reviews, unless a business is exceptional. My experience with Family Piano Company has been just that, exceptional! For years, I've been trying to find the original piano rack for my mother's piano, which somehow got lost many years ago. I did a google search and discovered that Family Piano had one. My wife and I were a bit strained for money and I doubted that I could make the purchase in one go.
I emailed Alice Alviani. She was terrific; by that I mean, both understanding and caring. She facilitated the purchase and made my dream a reality! I believe that a company is only as good as the people behind it. In talking with Alice, you notice immediately her passion for her business and most importantly, her desire to satisfy her customers. I also found that to be the case in talking with Linda, the business administrator at Family Piano. I love this company!

I was in the market for a digital piano and had a great experience at Family Piano in Waukegan. Brendan went above and beyond what I expected in accommodating an appointment, explaining each model/features, and offering several finance options so that the purchase could fit my budget. He even offered to deliver it straight to my home and set it up which I was extremely thankful for. They deserve your business. Thank you!

We were looking for a grand piano and didn't know where to start. Tony and Alice were an enormous help in explaining all our options and educating us on the different piano technologies. This can be an enormous task, almost like car shopping, but they were there to guide us along the way. I can't say enough about the outstanding customer service and would recommend this store to anyone buying a piano. They made the experience fun!

I love this place. They have such a fabulous variety of new and used pianos to fit your style and budget. In house technicians ensure your instrument is working perfectly. There is no high-pressure sales tactics, but they are extremely helpful if you need them to guide you to the perfect purchase for you. In an era of cold, characterless Internet sales, the owners at Family Piano bring back the old school charm of traditional piano sales. I appreciate their attention to detail, their helpfulness and wonderful personalities.

Brendan was friendly and helpful throughout the process, including my challenging financial situation; Alice brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the art that is purchasing, tuning, and regulating the instrument. They helped me pursue my dream of bringing piano back into my life after a decade hiatus. I expected to find a used grand, but left with a brand new rather respectable Kawai GX2.
I was a difficult customer, and give them a 98% overall. My only minor disappointment was with the quietplay system they recommended, which wasn't quite as great as I hoped, but in the end I didn't use it at much as I thought I would anyway : I want to add some things: - If you're a serious pianist looking for your next great love, engage Alice on how to find the perfect piano.
She has that 'artist' thing about her that can comfort you on the difficult task of finding THE piano. - the moving company they recommended did a perfect job navigating a very tough Chicago condo FOURTH floor walkup installation. It was incredible to see! - GLBT-friendly. They've navigated tunings, etc, with my husband and I amicably for going on two years now - this is truly a family company, yet rather skilled. I don't feel that I settled and I *trust* their recommendations.

From beginning to end the process was a breeze. Brendon lead us around the showroom and told us about the features of each piano we were interested in, Natsha followed up with some more info on the pianos, and Alice made the purchasing and setup of the piano very easy. Everyone at Family Piano is knowledgeable and very kind. Definitely feels like a family atmosphere. Also, my daughter has been playing there for two years and we are very happy with Natsha. She helps brings out the best in our daughter.

We just purchased our first piano and could not have been happier with Family Piano Co.! Alice was extremely helpful in coordinating the delivery and setting up service for some minor issues we experienced. She couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant to work with. We look forward to many wonderful years with our new piano. Thank you Family Piano.

Brendan is a very knowledgeable and generous hearted music lover. I approached Brendan about selling our piano. Even though we did not sell it to the Family Piano Co. (they are overstocked), Brendan immediately replied with the most detailed and sound advice on how we should proceed -- advice from how to price, where to list, how to list, things to watch for, piano movers and tuners, etc.
When I wrote back to ask for even more information, Brendan again replied immediately. If I were in the market to buy a piano, I would totally trust Brendan to guide us to the best piano for our needs. Thank you Brendan for helping us find a good home for our piano!

A great hidden treasure in Waukegan. The name says it all! When you come to The Family Piano you feel welcomed. Brendan Alviani is always so very helpful, and can't say enough about the rest of their staff, especially Danielle. The teachers are very patient, knowledgable and do a great job teaching! I recommend everyone who is interested in Music come check them out.

Visited FPC perhaps almost 1 year ago and immediately fell under its charm. It is a lovely, unassuming piano shop with a nice selection of new and used upright and grand pianos, including used Steinways and a large selection of Kawai pianos (Kawai dealer). I have been very lucky to stumble across this shop as their piano rental program is superb, very reasonably priced, and allows for the opportunity to build credit with the store.
I wish I had discovered this shop years ago when I first moved to Chicago. As a graduate student, it is truly unbelievable that I can come home every night to a piano. They set me up with an old Packard, but they have done her up beautifully - rich sound, ringing notes, beautiful body, and a touch that reveals much character. These people are truly piano lovers. Alice and her son Brendan are extremely nice and friendly people, and they have been very generous and accommodating of my musical needs and desires.
I cannot understate their generosity - they just wanted me to have a piano! I felt so welcome in their store, and I am saddened to soon return my piano as I wish I could continue supporting them. Although FPC is quite far from my current location (Hyde Park, U of C), my experience with them is such that I would recommend that anyone in Chicago interested in renting/purchasing a piano should seek them out first. Additionally, customer service and piano maintenance has been extremely prompt and friendly. They also gave me some free sheet music with the piano! And they offered me a cup of coffee. This place deserves 6 stars.

My young son was asked what he wanted for his birthday. His only answer was "a piano." Of course, I explained the cost and commitment to lessons as thoroughly as possible, but he held firm. Me? I've always had a secret desire to learn, but never have. So, I was a newbie in every way when I walked into Family Piano Co. The outstanding customer service began when I made the first phone call. Brendan answered promptly and spent more than a few minutes hearing out my initial questions.
By the time we hung up, he'd made me an appointment to come by the showroom a bit outside of their normal business hours just to accommodate my schedule. When I arrived, I received the full attention of Brendan for a full hour as he patiently walked me through everything I needed to know, from how pianos are built, to the differences in size and model, to discerning various tones from one piano to the next.
He also fully explained the many rental, purchase and financing options offered. Feeling a little overwhelmed, I left to think through my choices and returned several days later. Notably, when I came back, Brendan remembered my name immediately, and didn't miss a beat in picking back up on my questions and needs. This personal touch meant a ton to me.
Again I felt absolutely no pressure as I took over two more hours to thoroughly explore the different new and refurbished pianos. Again, I was highly impressed by the depth and breadth of knowledge and the caring approach to the customer service. I am a single mom who manages my finances carefully, and I felt that everybody I came into contact with at this store was respectful of me, my budget, and my needs. Brendan and the owner, Alice, are verifiable experts in everything piano related, and it was a pleasure to spend unhurried time with them absorbing the entire process.
In the end, I purchased at a very fair price, a beautifully restored antique piano which I hope will not only become my son's introduction to music, but also a cherished family heirloom. I rarely write reviews on yelp or any other website, but the experience I've had at Family Piano Co. from start to finish was extraordinary and I could not NOT shout their praises for anyone looking for a piano who appreciates local, family oriented businesses and old fashioned customer service.
