JR Judd Violins

I'm not musically inclined, but my significant other is, she plays violin to be precise. I went with her to drop off her violin for repairs. I being curious asked many questions and toured the place and meet the repair guy, he even took the time to explain the process used for repair and answered all my questions. The staff there after super friendly and though I'm not a musician, if you are, I recommend this place.

After 20 years of playing with a student bow I decided it was time to upgrade to a "forever" bow. Mr. Judd sent me four cello bows to try for two weeks, which gave me plenty of time to work them over in practice, rehearsals and lessons. By the end of the first week it was clear which one had the magic for me and my cello! Now I'm excited to figure out everything I can do with it in my playing. These are exceptional people to deal with--they made every step of the trial easy and answered all my questions along the way.

Great service and large inventory of instruments. They don't try to push you to purchase a more expensive instrument. Charming house. I drove two hours one way to get there. It was well worth it.

We rented from this company for 10 years for our youngest child's violin needs. They have been superb in EVERY way: communication, ease of ordering/sizing up/shipping, trial periods for instruments, payment plans, perfectly handled details, and personal attention from Mr. Judd himself with his lifetime of knowledge/passion. Our recent purchase now places in our hands a superb violin to which we applied our years of accumulated rental credit. We cannot recommend more highly!

I purchased a double bass and bow at J. R. Judd Violins in Nov. 2021. I had an excellent experience there. The owner had me schedule an appointment during which he gave me an hour of his time, expertise, and hospitality to make sure I tried the instruments thoroughly and selected the right one for me. The tour of the shop was really enjoyable too. This is a great place to purchase or repair a bowed string instrument!

I take my wife's 96 year old Uncle there to have his violin serviced. Mr. Judd takes exceptional care of him and goes above and beyond normal standards. Would highly recommend J. R. Judd to anyone looking for a stringed instrument.

I dropped by on a whim then was delighted by the massive inventory and the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. I was immediately comfortable enough to make my planned investment in a cello. Their inventory allowed me to select and try the perfect instrument for me. John observed my style and helped fit me to a 7/8 Eastman with custom strings. It was a great experience.

I had a great experience purchasing a bow recently at J.R. Judd's. A friend recommended this shop to me and I finally took the trip. The space I tried bows in was very comfortable and organized. I narrowed my search down to several bows, which I then took back home for my teacher to try. We both agreed on the same bow, which I felt was perfect for me. Mr. Judd guided my choices by explaining how the weight, balance, and firmness of the stick influences playability.

He also gave me some background on each of the bows I selected. I love that I could really take my time. They gave me box and shipping label before I left so I had everything I needed to return the bows I wasn't purchasing. I also found a new shoulder rest! There are a lot of violin shops in my area, but none with such excellent service. If you're considering a new violin or bow, definitely visit this shop!

Wonderful experience here purchasing a viola for our daughter! Mr. Judd and all of his staff were friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. We are not from the area, but they graciously worked with us to make it as easy as possible to return the violas she ended up not choosing.

J.R. Judd Violins is wonderful. I bought a brilliant sounding soloistic sounding violin from him from in 2009. 12 years later, I moved toward wanting a violin with a more subtle and sweet tone. Mr. Judd worked with me to find an instrument that best suited my needs and was extremely flexible in working with me.
