Knapp Music offers musical instruments for rent or sale in the Indianapolis area. We also offer repair services for all musical instruments, including violin, viola, cello, bass, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, and flute. At Knapp Music we rent and sell instruments that perform beautifully and dependably. We specialize in violins, violas, cellos, and basses, offered here in our workshop or delivered to your door anywhere in the United States.We believe that students should learn to love music on instruments that produce a beautiful sound - instruments that fit them well, tune well, and inspire a love of fine craftsmanship.

Knapp Music features a wide selection of both wood (Pernambuco) and Carbon Fiber Bows. We carry a number of top brands including CODA Bow, JonPaul Bows, L'Archet Brasil, Marco Raposo, and Glasser. The following models are available in violin, viola, cello and bass. Fractional-size options are limited.
At Knapp Music we believe that providing great rentals is the most important thing that we do. We have a philosophy of business that keeps things simple. We buy and maintain great instruments. We place the same emphasis on the quality and performance of our fractional-size rentals that we place on our full size instruments.
We maintain an extensive supply of strings for all instruments / all sizes. Popular brands include Thomastik Dominant, Pirastro Tonica, D'Addario Helicore, Larsen, and many others. We have carefully selected a few lower cost options as well which are great for beginner-intermediate levels. Call us for information and pricing.
Knapp Music offers a complete repair facility for both wind instruments and stringed instruments at our workshop in Pittsboro, Indiana. Whether you need a simple tune-up for your instrument or a more extensive restoration, we can handle it. We strive to bring out the power and beauty of each instrument, and you can rely on us to keep your instruments in top working order.

Jim Knapp is not only a phenomenal, expert string instrument repairman, but also he is genuinely kind. I took my acoustic guitar and ukulele in recently, both of which had cracks and seam separations due to my rambunctious toddler getting the better of them when I was not able to intervene. Jim repaired the cracks, touched up the finishes, and even went the extra mile to reinforce the trouble areas on the inside of the instruments.
On top of all this, his prices are extremely reasonable. I recommend Knapp Music for any string instrument needs / repairs / sales / maintenance or otherwise they you may have!

Amazing customer service and great quality instruments. I was brand new to the cello, and Jim was incredibly kind and helpful. He only keeps high quality instruments in store, but there are still reasonably priced options to choose from. I only have good things to say about my experience at Knapp Music!

Beautiful location, quiet and serene. Jim is sweet and gentle natured, very kind and soft spoken, the exact kind of person who will make you feel comfortable trying out new instruments and repairs. He went out of his way to let my little one try a violin and a ukelele, which really brightened our day. I was there for a bow rehair and he did excellent work.
My local violin academy recommends them for all repair work and rentals and I can see why. I can't speak highly enough about my visit, I will definitely be back! Thank you Jim!

Wonderful quality violins both to rent and own! The owner is a lovely man to work with and very knowledgeable. I been to other violin shops and non compare to this sweet and charming little violin shop. I highly recommend Knapp music if you are training a future professional violinist. It's essential to get a excellent violin to start that journey, Knapp music is your perfect start.

Jim was incredibly kind and helpful. I received a violin for Christmas even though I know nothing about music. Jim was able to walk me through tuning it, the stings I needed, and other small repairs that needed to be done. He has a cavernous knowledge of instruments. I will definitely be going back for anything I need!

Top notch music store and very highly recommend. Perfect for my son's high school orchestra instrument. Family owned and operated. One on one consultation to assist in deciding which violin my son liked best. Mr. and Mrs. Knapp were very patient and helpful. Very happy to buy local and support local business.

From what I could tell a great nice locally owned music store. You will need a gps to get there is you don't know the Pittsboro area. Had a nice selection of string instruments including ukeles. I asked about ordering one for my daughter for a present. They most likely can assist you with any instrument needs you have at very reasonable prices.
I am getting my sons trumpet serviced and cleaned for $35. I would highly recommend them for your music needs on the west side of town. Also just to update got the instrument back from repairs in two days it looks great and sounds amazing. It sounds so much better than the rental instrument my son had from school.

I really enjoyed Knap Music, you can just tell they have a real love of music and want to make sure you are well taken care of. They have great options to buy or rent and can give you some good advice on what you might want To do. They spent some quality. Time with my boys to understand what instrument might be a good fit and worked with them very well. Just a great experience.
