Originally opened as Bowman's String & Horn Shop on Haswell Street by luthier Bradley Bowman in 1979, the store became The String & Horn Shop, Inc. when Paul and Susan Rieger purchased the business in 1994 and relocated the storefront to the former Duke & Ayers (circa 1876) building in Historic Downtown Bryan.
Since we cater to band and orchestra programs all throughout central Texas (from Austin to Houston and pretty much everywhere in between), we carry Director-approved, industry-trusted name brand instruments. We also rent these quality instrument to private students and the curious beginner! 1 - Enjoy the familiarity of shopping in our Historic Downtown Bryan location and getting instruments directly through us. If it is not convenient for you to visit our store, we can set up your instrument rental over the phone or by email.
We know Directors have special requirements to make sure their programs run smoothly and efficiently. For years we have made it a standard to offer a variety of services to help Directors meet their challenges and make their music programs reach their full potential. We service school districts, universities, church programs, and special interest organizations.

Nice place with a nice variety of instruments for all skill levels. The store's staff and owner are friendly and helpful with the myriad of questions that I had. I had repair work done on two violins for 4th grade son that I found used and I was very happy with the service and pricing. I will go back the next time I need musical supplies.

Susan, do not lie. I never berated you. I called to see how my child's violin could get fixed, your employee was rude and gave me no options. I asked to not be charged and was glad to return the violin. When I was charged, I waited a few days and contacted you today - February 19, 2021. While trying to explain myself, you stopped and confirmed who I was.
Not ONCE, did you apologize. So do not lie and say that I berated you and act as if you were trying to apologize to me. Truth is, this could have all been resolved on last Thursday when I originally called in asking for help. I could care less about your 26 years experience, because in this one moment, you did not provide the customer service that my daughter and I deserve. I will stand by what I have said and I will let other people know.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The LACK of customer service received from the employees and then the "owner", Susan was horrible. We had been renting our daughter's violin for almost two school years from this place. When a string was broken, I called for guidance. I received nothing except for an expectation that I drive an hour and a half to return the instrument and a half-hearted statement that they were not sure when they would come up to the school to pick up the instrument.
I asked them not to charge me anymore, because my child would be returning the instrument to her orchestra class when school was back in session, and that we would go with a more local, reputable company. I was charged anyway. When I called back and spoke to the owner, she was rude and on the defense. I would never recommend this company to any parents and I will be contacting the school district as well. They should not allow companies that don't respect or value students and their families to offer a low quality product.

Drove to Bryan from The Woodlands to visit the store. Everyone was helpful and warm. There was also another family there from the same school/area shopping for another instrument. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. I will be returning here for my next instrument purchase. Thank you String and Horn Shop!

Neat music shop. Good prices, and they rotate their stock well. My child takes guitar lessons from Tubie at the string and horn shop so I have had the chance to check the shop out weekly. Staff is laid back and helpful, I have been particularly impressed with the guitar lessons and how quickly my child is progressing. Great attitude and enthusiasm all around.
