Services
Altenburg Piano House, founded in 1847, is the oldest family-run piano house in the United States. Through all the years that have passed, one thing that has stayed constant is our passion for great pianos. In 1906 the family moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey and we've been here ever since. The first Elizabeth showroom opened in 1906 on East Jersey Street in Elizabeth.

I bought my wonderful baby grand from Altenburg 30 years ago-moving it into my 3rd floor Greenwich Village walkup apartment seemed impossible, but they did it! Today, Don, who will never forget how hard it was to move the piano in when he has 30 years old, now a spry and strong 60 year-old, joined Fred and one more to move it out of the apartment and they're now on their way to Rhode Island, the piano's new home. These are truly amazing movers, who have also been friendly and professional on every step of this process. I can't recommend them highly enough!

Fred and Mark were absolutely wonderful to work with. I couldn't have been happier with the process and their patience through it all. I specifically sought them out because they are the August Forster dealer recommended by the company. I know that when I am ready for a larger piano, I will absolutely be returning.

I couldn't be happier with my piano purchase from Altenburg Piano House. My old piano was great and served its purpose but was completely out of tune. Needed a new piano and found Altenburg Piano through high recommendations. They have an incredible selection to choose from and really help you find which piano is perfect for you. The staff was excellent and Fred was wonderful.
They truly helped me get back into re-discovering my love for piano playing during the quarantine. Haven't played like this since I was a kid and so happy to get back to basics. It's been therapy for me and for so many others who listen!

Very nice selection of pianos in a beautiful and historical shop in the heart of Elizabeth, NJ. Fred, the owner, knows a lot about pianos, and he is also fully committed to helping the customers find the best piano for their needs without being pushy. We have recently purchased an excellent Pearl River grand piano from the Altenburg Piano House for our church.
They delivered the piano perfectly on schedule and tuned it afterwards. I have also used their piano moving services when I had them move my Yamaha C5 grand piano. They have a lots of expertise moving pianos and did a terrific job moving mine. The C5 is a pretty heavy piano, but they made the whole thing look like a piece of cake, I didn't worry about getting my piano damaged because they did everything in such a professional way. Their price is also very reasonable. I highly recommend Altenburg Piano House to anyone!

I recommend Altenburg Piano House for many things. One of them being how friendly they are, we arrived to the piano house and we were welcomed with warm smiles. We were asked what kind of piano we wanted and what brand we are looking for. The choices were shown and we were allowed to play it. It was quick and easy. The next day it was delivered even though it was snowing and they gave us a great deal for the piano we bought.

Professional, knowledgeable, no pressure sales. Fred and Alex were very helpful throughout our experience and made every effort to help us in finding the right piano for our needs and budget. My son was able to play many of the pianos in the store to get a feel for the different sounds and feel on everything from a basic upright to some of the beautiful grand pianos on hand.
We decided to hold off purchasing for now until we're able to afford something a little better than what our current budget allows, but will definitely return to Altenburg Piano when we're ready. They are a business that is in it for more than just a quick sale. Thanks again Alex for all of your help and advice.and to you Fred for your desire to make sure that we are able to make a good informed decision and not just rush to close a sale.

Very excellent experience in buying our first piano at Altenburg Piano House. Fred the owner understand the need of parents who just started their kids on piano lessons and offered very sound advice on what would be suitable for new beginner. The shop also offer nice trade-in options when you purchase used piano from them, and he will stand by the product he sold you if anything major do happen.
The shop also offer free shipping if you are close enough. Overall, first rate experience in dealing and chatting with Fred. Love our first piano and I would recommend all my friends to pay them a visit when interested in getting a piano.
